Well sold the 04 today:(

But I'm less than a month away from the 06 now.

My question is: Are the 06's lower? I was looking and going from my 04 right to the dealership where they had a Black one that came in on Christmas eve, it looked lower. Is this fact?

Also, should I just buy the Black one, it's same exact specs as the Silver one we ordered, what do you guys think?

Do not buy a black vehicle. You will be sorry. They are very, very difficult to keep clean and any normal paint imperfections will be magnified.

I had a black Mustang once......Never again!!

Go for white, silver or perhaps one of the champagne colors -- much easier to keep clean.

Now, if you happen to own a car wash and can keep the vehicle garaged......that might be a different story.

Aside from the color issue, I know you are going to love your new 4Runner!

I also own a black 4Runner.

It is my first black car, and I was very skeptical at first. Yes it is a bit tougher to take care of, but IMO, it is tough to beat when it is clean. After a nice wash and wax session, it looks stunning.

I can't comment on whether the '06 Runners are lower. I have an '05 Sport V8 AWD, but I haven't put it next to an '06 to compare.

As for a black vehicle, it depends on both your personal preference and the vehicle itself. Some cars look good in black, while others do not.
IMHO, I think that black 4Runners do not look good in black. To me, a black 4runner look like a hertz.

I think that BMWs, on the other hand, look great in Black. My 545i is black. However, it is the hardest thing to keep clean. I will never buy another black car again.

I think that Silver and White are the best colors for a 4Runner. My last 4Runner was silver. My new 4Runner is white.:

These guys are right, black cars are the worst to keep clean. I started off with a 1990 black 4Runner, vowed to never buy black again. Fast forward to 2003, I buy a black BMW. Looks great when clean. Little bit easier to maintain because it's a smaller car. Nevertheless, it's a pain to detail. Well, my current car is blue. and it's so much easier. I can go 2 months without a wash and it'll look fine.


Silver, Galactica Gray, or Nautical Blue for the new '06 is what I would choose from. Never black.

There was no change made to the height or ground clearance from the 05-06 models. If you are crazy about scratches and imprefections in the paint, don't get black. You will be a slave to your truck!

We ordered the Silver and I'm pretty sure we're going with it now, but, Black is beautiful. The main things I'm concerned with are the VVTI v8 now, 5 speed Auto, and 3rd row, the color is kinda open still, but still Silver for now.

As for the height, it really did look lower in the front, I'll write it off to optical illusion or something. I'll definately spacer lift this one by 07 though.

I once had a tan BMW 2002. It never got dirty, only textured! I also had a black Carmon Gia in high school. Even with the time to take care of it it still looked bad an hour after washing it. Stick to the silver.

All stock 4Runners sit lower in the front than they do in the back. I believe the difference is 1" to 1 1/2". They have always been that way since 2003.

BTW, did you sell your 2004 back to the dealer or was it a private buyer? Also, if you decide not to get the silver and want a good looking dark color w/o the look of being dirty just days after washing.

Also, I invested $288 into a sewn to fit Weathertech SUV cover. I do NOT have a garage or cover parking and this cover keeps the vehicle looking great.

If you are buying this one in Germany; are you getting the 120+ mph speed limiter because of the autobauhn. We here in the USA get the 109 mph version before the engine cuts off.

is this true? ive gotten mine to stick on 110 for a bit before(was going so fast that even though i was slowing down the needle wasnt moving), i thought that meant i was in excess of 110, i kinda guess i hit 120-125. i was on an open road in central fl, i only slowed down because i passed a cop on the side of the road giving a mustang convertable a ticket. my heart was pounding, he didnt come after me tho thank god. But the point is my engine never cut out, and unless my speedo is wrong, i dont think it is, then i was going over 110

When I got my '03, I almost went with the silver, but knew I would be upset that I had not gone with the black. This is my fourth black vehicle and don't really think I will go with any other color. I guess it helps that I work out of the house and it stays in the garage, especially on rainy days. The only problem with that is the wiper blades keep dry rotting......

Just last week, I had been to the Toyota dealership for an oil change. When I left, some guy followed me to the gas station and tried to get me to sell him my truck. He said he would rather have mine than the black '06 they were holding for him at the dealership.....that made me feel good.

Alright, things changed again

It looks like Black now, they dropped the price 750 for me today and I'll be in it by Monday at the latest and my Silver one isn't even on the boat yet so it won't get here till Febuary now, this is the 2nd time it's been delayed.

We originally ordered the black then changed it but I think we are going with it now.

As for height, I looked and it sits exactely as my 04 did/does, but the bigger front bumper made it look lower in the front. Also, I'll be getting the factory skid plate to improve the look. I go do the paperwork on it for the loan tomorrow, they pull it from the docks in North Germany tomorrow as well and it should arrive on Friday, Monday at the latest.

I saw a 2wd in black today and I have to admit, i really like it.

As for a few of the other questions:

I understand the front is lower on them since 03, but I'll straighten that out with the spacer lift probably in early 07.

Why did I get rid of my 04? I wanted the new VVTI v8 with the 5 speed Auto, I had v6 and 4Speed, and we need the 3rd row now. Thats about it, test drove the Land Rover's and X5's but nothing was our 4Runner, decided to get the big v8 now.

Did I loose money on the principle? No, I only owe around 15,900 on it and I sold it for 26,500 so I have a huge downpayment now too. I will be driving in an 06 ordered with everything I want for around 352 a month for a 60 month loan. I don't think you can beat that with a stick

All in all, the only problem with this purchase was which color to get. The Black and Silver were our only two choices unless we wanted to wait until June, when they have a Galactic Grey coming in, but, There's about 20 4Runners on base here, out of those, 2 are white, 11 are Galactic Grey, 3 are black and the rest are Silver.
Our white one was one of those whites.

Oh yeah

As for shutoff, no it's completely US spec vehicle, I'm military and we just get them Tax free over here but completely the same as yours, just less selection and takes forever for them to come in.

And speed of shutoff is a GPS indicated and checked and rechecked 113, you can actually see the topoff on my old post Muhahahahahaha on the performance section of this forum. It's from when I installed the K&N on our White one. It shuts off at 113 and comes back on at 109, then back to around 111 and won't top out again.

I have other toys for the Autobahn and the notable tracks around here, namely a hot little VW hatch and a XZ-6R
