Popping problems... I have the Entune Stereo. I have 300 Bass blockers on the positive at the dash speaker. I replaced the front 6x9's with the JBL 6x9's. The dash speakers sound great by themselves. But when I plug in the JBL, crazy popping ensues in both the door and dash speaker. What is causing this? Is the wiring different on the 6x9 JBL speaker?

Edit: Is there a way to bypass the the dash speaker with the wiring and have a wire for the door and separate one for the dash?

Not clear on why you put in bass blockers in the first place. Did you do other upgrades? Separate amp? Speakers? Did you try removing the bass blockers?

I think I solved the problem. I wired the dash speaker alone and it sounds amazing all the way up to 60, no bass blocker. Wired the door speaker alone and it pops like crazy. The JBL speaker is not tuned to work with the stock entune radio. It cant handle those bass notes and pops, causing the dash speaker to pop because they are wired together. The right side is stock 6x9 (non JBL) and kappa with bass blocker and sounds amazing. But I think where the popping trouble everyone has had is from the 6x9 and it spits it back to the dash.

I'm guessing when you take off the blocker on the little blue connector it not only unblocks the dash speaker, but also the 6x9. I think it should have been left on to keep the stock 6x9 from popping.

But all resolved here, I'll just put the old 6x9 back.

I had to run bass blockers on mine; noticeable improvement over kappas without bass blockers. Running Rockford Fosgate 6x9s in the front doors. Not sure that it matters, but I run an amp as well and never had doors popping (thumping, but not popping).

I went the dsp route and it works great! Yeah it kinda requires an RTA to locate all full range inputs an to sum the ones the factory has high/low passed filtered. JL audio's cleansweep worked perfect for me. Had base factory in my '11 4R. JL' HD amps are awesome also cause they fit perfectly under driver or passenger seats. With tons of crystal clear power

Does not make sense that the 6 x 9 pops. It should be able to handle the full range signal much better than the dash speaker. Think you have an impedence issue but no matters. If the old speaker works and you are satisfied with the sq, that's all that matters.

Yeah I was perplexed. The engineered it to work the the entune 6x9's so I'll stick with those and the kappas.

Static noise

I installed the kappas last night and everything went pretty well. I was on my way to work this morning and noticed static on 3 different sports radio stations. There is no popping but the static is annoying. I only seem to really notice on talk radio. Also the sound does not seem overwhelmingly better than the jbl premium system I had before. I only replaced the front speakers. Please help!

I tossed the blue connector and just wired all the + & - together (I know it's right). Sounds great at low/mid volume, anything above 40+ sounds like a fire cracker in my ears.

I am assuming I need 600hrz bass blockers mentioned in this thread to fix this, some say needed others not? Is their a better one or was this determined the best suited?

**UPDATE**

Installed the bass blockers last night and it 100% fixed the popping/crackling at high volumes (40+) This was for an "2013 Entune NAV non JBL 6 speaker", just for a heads up with anyone else who may come across this same problem. I don't see why some would and some not though?

Metra Speaker Adapter Harness #72-8104

Installed dash speakers about 3 months ago and they sound great. Many thanks to OP for the great write-up!

UPDATE: No need to cut factory speaker wires or pry off OEM connector, Metra has an adapter that plugs into OEM connector, part #72-8104. They are not listed to fit on the 4Runner on their website, nor would they confirm when I called.

I can confirm that on my 2012 SR5 (NAV, 8 speaker, non JBL) adapter works for all speakers, just replaced doors (4) and hatch with Kappa 3-ways..........OMG it sounds great!

Got 4 sets of adapters from Amazon for $4.89 ea with free shipping. BB has them for $14.99 a set...........ouch.

Next step is to install CAP's on dash speakers, now when it's cranked up, they start to crack. Gonna install 133uf capacitors as listed in another post.

I am leaning towards this, and hoping it will fit (I have the JBL 15 speaker TE W/Nav)-

Dash - Kappa 329CF
Front - Kappa 693.9i 6x9
Rear - Kappa 63.9i 6x5
Liftgate - Kappa 63.9i 6x5
Subwoofer - Any Suggestions? Should I stick with a 2ohm like the rest of the speakers are?

Question - Has anyone been able to fit 6x9's in the rear doors and lift gate?
