What are stock tires worth?

Hey everyone. I'm looking at getting a set of 5th gen Trail wheels for my 3rd gen, and was wondering what the stock tires would be worth of a 5th gen? I need an A/T tire of some sort, so the stock tires wouldn't work, plus I like the aggressive A/T look much more. I'm sure there's a lot of you guys that bought one of these trucks and pulled off the stock tires and replaced them with a good A/T tire or so.

What would these tires be worth nearly new, with less than 100 miles on them? What if they had more miles like 10k-15k?

If you sold them, how much did you get for them and how many miles were on them?

There's a set not too far from me and the guy is asking $600 for the set of 4 wheels and tires with less than 100 miles on everything. The only thing missing is the TPMS, but I don't need that for my 3rd gen.

Sounds like a good deal to me, if the rims are what you want, and if they are in good shape. I sold my four OEM tires (Bridgestones) with 500 km on them, for $100 each, and replaced them with Cooper AT 3's. VERY happy with them!
However, you have indicated that you don't want the original tires anyway, so maybe you should just buy the rims you want, without tires, and then add the rubber of your choice.
 
The wheels are worth $100/ea. So that means the tires are costing you $50/ea. Put the tires up on CL for, oh $90, and take the best offer for quick sale. Many have posted good success with CL and 'new' takeoffs.

..... or, what I did was make my oem tires a trade-in as part of the purchase on new ones. I got $80 each for mine off the retail price on new Conti hwy tires.
Of course, you have to do this upfront of the purchase of the A/Ts, so they need to be in hand as you negotiate. Some retailers are ok with this, some are not.

Where did you buy your tires that you were able to do this? Most places here that sell new tires don't seem to sell used ones as well.

Anyone here got a dealer to swap tires on the new purchase? What was your trade in allowance on new set? Such a horrible stock tires toyota puts on new SR5.
 
AT tires on stock rims

Good question. Good, useful replies so far too. This is the first thing I want to do with my new TE when it gets delivered. I want to put better tires on it. I'm hoping to put 32" tires on my 2015 T4R TE. Eventually I'll put a 2" lift on the truck.

The stock rims are 17"x7.5". Is there any big advantage to buying 17" x 8" rims to add new tires to, or is the stock width adequate? The options for slightly wider rims seem to include the Toyota forged aluminum alloy 17" x 8" rims shown in the catalog or online for $1800 or new 17"x8" TRD style rims in black from FN for about$800, or anything similar from other sources.

I'd appreciate any input you guys may have on tires and rims.

Edit: Okay, should have said 32" to 32.5" tires. I hope to upgrade to a 275/70 on 17" rims. I looked back at the tire fitment guide here and realized my mistake.

<700 miles, I got $300 for the set of 4 bridgestones in craigslist within 1 day, probably could have got more if I felt like waiting.
 
Sold my new stock trail wheels and tires for 1K on CL .....so many low ball offers...I wouldn't budge.....some ass offered me $400! Ha!

I sold my brand new <100mi set of 4 (without TPMS) of 2015 SR5 honeycomb wheels + bridgestone duellers tires for $800. Here in SoCal, going to Discount Tires and buying a set of 4 duellers are going to cost you $800+, that's why I could get the $800 for the tires and the wheels.

Pay them $1200 more, they will swap on anything for ya.

Not all stock tires are bad, especially for those mall crawler/soccer moms. Dealers over here put on Bridgestone Dueller AT tires, I think for people who don't car about the looks, never go offroad, only freeway driving looking for fuel economy.... they are decent. (But I do question why they even get a 4runner... they should just get a prius)

It doesn't even rain here.

For just a little more $$, you could end up with some killer looking TRD clones that are actually wider than stock and really up your game.

In this area (Chicago) Trail gets Dueler HT that are worthless on anything but dry pavement. I think SR5s get same thing. For me, it's not event about the looks but safety.
Why Toyota, why put this crap on a great truck
