Hey I am trying to convince my parents to let me put a 2.5 inch body lift on my 4runner and they say that it is too dangerous. i know that it heightens the center of gravity but how much does that really effect the safety of the car??? Please Help!!!!!

I don't think it's dangerous, depending on application I guess.

Are you planning to do sharp corners at 70mph? or do slaloms?

Just lift it, would they even notice? there's always an excuse :)

Yea not planning on doing turns at 70 mph but i just need to find some hard proof from a website or something to show them so they can come around to letting me get one

Sounds more like your parents do not want to pay for a lift!!!

Unless you have a job and can buy your own lift....
then that theory is blown out of the water...

haha totally.

Who's paying for the lift?

My dad would have said no way and ask what functionality I was getting out of it and then proceed to lecture me on bringing down the resale value of the vehicle by trying to make modifications that offered something better than the highly paid vehicle engineers originally designed.

Then I'd pout and go to bed hungry :D

There are a few dangers to keep in mind when lifting, especially when using a body lift. With a body lift, the center of gravity is the biggest factor since it is not split like it is with a spring lift. Also keep in mind that with a body lift, you may have to extend the steering shaft, clutch/gas/brake links, you will most likely have to extend the transfer case shift, and could have to relocate the radiator and other miscellaneous components. Poor quality body lifts used to sheer off in a bad accident which left many people injured (especially true with the old Jeeps) - which may be the source of your parents' uneasiness.

Depending on what type of lift you want, if you get a spacer lift, you should be able to avoid most of these issues.
