What are you paying for oil change?

I worked with a guy that (previously) was a manager at one of those oil change places. After hearing the horror stories I would never take any vehicle to one of those places. I'll continue to do my own vehicles as long as I can and then go to the dealer where they will take some sort of responsibility if things go wrong.
17 4runner just scheduled the 10k service, all service is covered for 5 years. If its cost effective I would do the oil changes myself but this doesn't seem to be the case. My 17 audi I'll do the oil changes myself, euro full synthetic oil was recently on sale with rebate at walmart 5 qts at $3 after rebate, ended up purchasing 25 qts as I usually do two oil changes per year on it.

I just purchased the same oil filter wrench off our local snap on truck.
I will use it next week for the first time and it does feel like a quality tool.

partznet.com just had 5 filters and 5 plug gaskets fot $15 sale. Normally those filters without gaskets around $5 each.

Out of curiosity, what is the oil change interval your dealership recommends yo change the oil at? Local dealerships around here all recommend oil cages at 5K miles instead of the 10K Toyota interval. Just wondering if your dealership would push the 10K OIC will free changes.:
Just 10k...i'd have to pay for those 5k oil changes if I wanted. If toyota recommends 10k I'm changing at 10k.

Let's see, had the first one at 10k and it was free. So are the next 3. Two compliments of Toyota and two from the dealer.
Same deal on my girlfriend's Avalon. Four oil changes - 10k, 20k, 30k & 40k. And free tire rotations every 5k and free yearly state inspections.
And a free car wash if we want to hang around and wait for it. Nah. I can do it faster in the driveway.

I perform all my own oil changes.
I got lazy and decided to get the last free Toyota care oil change.
I just recently changed my oil.
I had to use a breaker bar to remove the filter housing.
My guess is it was at least 50ft lbs, surprised the housing did not crack.

I did purchase a bag of 10 oil pan plug gaskets from Toyota. I don't remember the exact price, but they end up being a few cents each.

Bought a case of 5 toyota oil filters on amazon for 25 bucks, local dealer has them for 4.97 each no limit. Toyota synthetic 0w-20 is 6.75 a quart at my local dealer so I grab 7. I asked to buy the crush washers and the parts guy just gave me a giant handful for free that should last 15 oil changes.
All in all I probably save 10 bucks doing it myself, but I know it's done correctly and I always reapply anti seize to my skid plate bolts and torque everything to factory specs. Discount Tire does my rotations for free every 5,000 and I change my oil every 5,000 as well as I don't trust the 10,000 intervals.

so you are at $52.22 per oil change because of the Toyota oil.
Next time I am going to combine your oil filter price $25 for 5 filters, with the mobile 1 0W-20 full syn from Wal-Mart and be at $37.44.

The worst part is I just bought the truck from that dealership a few months back the vehicle is used but i just figured I would go for my first maintenance and also my first time ever getting any service done at Toyota see how it goes and I sure wasn’t expecting that price I do live in Hawaii keep in mind where it would have cost me about 40 dollars for a 5 quart and 2 single quart bottles which is what I figure I need this is from Walmart cheapest I can find plus another 10 bucks or so for a filter 50 bucks I could have done it myself i will never go to the dealer again I have a 95 i have changed for 10 years for 40 bucks the only difference is taking off a skid plate that’s pretty insane

Just changed the GX this afternoon - $5 for the 04152-YZZA3 and about $55 for the 8.2 quarts of oil.
The local Lexus dealership wants $130.
