Hmmm, LOL why in the f##k should I or anyone else pay money to do R&D on something? :doh: Like I want to tear the front end off because of a failure. That makes no sense what-so-ever. Just asking if anyone has done hard pulls on it or if it was tested under heavy loads. That's all.
If, on the other hand, I was given a unit with the express intent to test it then that is a different story.

Of course, you should always spool under enough load that you won't bury your line under bottom layers when you do winch under heavy load. Winching 101. What does this have to do with pulling the front end off of the truck?

Best as I can remember nobody has yet drilled out the bumper bolts and then asked if they were strong enough. But point taken and I will amend my answer to: yep, it will be just fine and dandy. Nothing to worry about. layball:

I have stalled out my 10K winch, pretty close to the last wrap, moved, then did a double line pull. On the single line pull, the fairlead was flexed a couple of inches or so outward and bending the bumper cover, but returned to shape when the load was removed. IMHO, it is plenty strong.

Sorry, you didn't quote and I thought you were speaking to me! My bad. :sorry: I have been considering this setup too and really had only heard of people installing and not actually using. I was asking if the stock setup is strong enough. LOL my luck I would be the one that did something silly.

Aren't most aftermarket steel bumpers also bolted on at the same bolts as the BB winch plate? Which would me it's roughly about the same strength as a winch mounted on a steel bumper?

Or do the steel bumpers have additional reinforcements to the frame? I am not sure, I never really looked into installing one before.

One thing that does come to mind is I think the CURT front receiver is rated at ~9000 lbs line pull and they bolt to a few of the same bolts as the BB plate. BUT the front receiver also ties into the front recovery hooks, so that's probably distributing the forces :noidea:

It uses the inner pair of studs (not both inner and outer like the Curt) that retain the rail extensions, not those that retain the bumper. Then it uses u-bolts under and around the aluminum bumper.

Its not a good long term solution if you plan to leave the hilift on there. The lock nuts On the crossbars will vibrate loose pretty often, it will rattle badly over bumps, and eventually wear/bend the side rails to the point you can't keep it from rattling any more. I had the same setup until I switched to a Bajarack about 6 months ago.

It helps to keep it closer to with sides to minimize the flex in the crossbars.

ETA: by lock nuts, I mean the plastic screws on top of the crossbars and the plastic screws securing the fore/aft movement in the side rails.

As some of you may know from my picture posts, I have been working on refinishing my sliders. I've used a grinder and a wire cup to get most of the rust off but could only get so far. Couldn't get into some of the tighter spots. So, today I had dropped them off at a friend's shop for sand/media blasting to clean them up. They are even going to powder coat them for no charge! How great is that? I explained to them why I only wanted them to blast them but they said they are trying to build their portfolio and would powder coat them for me anyway. Sweet. Thanks Rob! He owns Pike Powder Coat in Boston, MA for anybody interested around the area.

Getting ready to do the first cabin filter replacement @ 20K. Not sure if it needs it or not, but I'll change it even if the original one is okay. Been using the a/c alot here in socal lately. I think I'll just replace it every 20K from now on.
