i plast-dipped the roof rails black and the rear emblems in gun metal gray this last saturday. sorry, no pics yet. but here is some advice for those that want to do the same:
1. on the rear emblem, use a flat toothpick to peel away the inner parts of the "T", not a flat head screwdriver. the toothpick method is tedious and time consuming (as you will snap about a dozen toothpicks before the plasti-dip peels away), but the screwdriver will leave small scuffs on the black background.
2. again, on the rear emblem, do not tape/mask of the area between the "T" and the "4runner". although you might think the opposite, this will make it harder to peel it away as you have less of the plasti-dip to hold on to when peeling.
3. on the rack rails - i took my cross bars off. i would not recommend this. when you put them back on it will inevitably damage the plasti-dip. in hindsight, i would leave them on and just tape them off. after i put the cross bars back on, i had quite a bit of touch up to do.
4. let that last layer of plasti-dip dry at least 30 minutes. that will make the peeling process easier.
5. make sure you really get the rear emblem from every angle. there are a couple thin spots on the "4runner" letters, you need to particularly pay attention to the corners of the letters.
