What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Finally this week long saga is winding down to an end...got the rear end lift in tonight. It took about 5-6 hours but again, it was partially because I was messing around with the rear KDSS sway bar.

For those of you with KDSS and thinking about doing a lift yourself, I've got plenty of pictures and also collected a bunch of pointers throughout this week. When I have some time, I will put together a how-to write up geared towards the specifics of working with the KDSS sway bars when doing your own lift. Without getting into it too much, it's actually not as bad as it seems, probably only about an extra 30 mins worth of work vs non-KDSS :)

Of course I can't go without posting pictures of all my hard work tonight sooooooo:

IMO, what it should've come with from the factory.

The worthless side shot that does not really show anything but my only proof that it's done.

So I took a quick measurement of the rear SAW springs and It sits about 2.5" higher in the rear, right after I dropped it off the jack stands. I suspect it will settle nicely down to about 2" or so.

I also managed to snap a picture in the daytime today of how she sits with the front OME 883 only, in case anyone was wondering how level it turned out.

Thanks to this wonderful forum full of great information and knowledgeable people, I was able to pull this off successfully!

Great job. I look forward to bookmarking your writeup.

Well, I had the day off so I decided to put some sound deadener on my doors. I got Best Buy to price match Amazon on the Dynamat and also tried a couple rolls of Peel and Seal per Antman to put on the inner door. I also used the Sp8ball/Antman door panel removal guide. Considering I know next to little about disassembling the inside of my car, things went pretty well. The first door was a pain in the a$$ to put back on. I couldn't think of any more expletives to say while doing it, but it finally went in. The other 3 were pretty easy.

My old/new cooler

So today I got off work and decided to stop by Salvage World on my way home. Honestly I wasn't looking for anything particular. I roamed around for about an hour and I came across a Coleman refrigerated cooler retail price $140 SW asking $45. I was thinking about the ARB coolers everyone has got but I thought to myself I'm not about to throw down $800 with a baby on the way, but I did see one used at this same place for $400 awhile back (still too pricey for me). So before I made my purchase I asked to see If I could plug in the unit to see if it works. Well I came across that the 12V plug had been broken. I told the the store associate about it and was kinda of bummed and walk to my runner. I sat there for a minute and was like shit I'm DIY kinda of guy, marched back in and said are you willing to sell the cooler for 1/2 price:biggrin2:? Lady called the manager to the front and he tried to give me the spill that they are already marked 1/2 cause they're an after retail store blah blah blah. So I showed him what was wrong with it and said honestly I can fix it myself but no one else would want to bother with the hassle. He ended taking $15 making it an even $30 winning! So after said and done I went to my local ghettomart and purchased a 12v plug spliced it and went on my marry way unit works smooth like butter on wheat toast.

About getting it out of the garage, I have news for you...I had to air down my tires :redbrick:. With the new rear springs in it raised the roof rails too damn high to clear the raw opening of the garage (even with the garage door pulled way up and out of the way). Who would've thought my first time airing down would be on pavement and not a trail, lol.

So after that ordeal, and spending forever pumping air back into the tires, it was already dark and I couldn't get any decent pictures. Maybe I need to invest in on-board air, for when I need to go in and out of my garage

Anyway, here she is...OME 883 up front and SAWs out back. Have a great weekend gentlemen!

Bittersweet day, we traded our 2011 4Runner in. We used ours for three years of towing our autocross car all over the place and it did so trouble-free. The wagon showed 37K miles and I'd say that at least 25K of that was done with the trailer hooked to its back.

But we needed to go bigger. I want to bring a second set of wheels/tires on further-flung trips down the road and I just couldn't afford to give up the interior space that we'd need for tools/jack/luggage/electronics/food/etc. It was time to grow up and get a big boy truck.

Drove most of the trucks available: two Dodges, two Fords, a Chevy, and a Toyota. We liked the Dodge the best followed by Tundra, Chevy, Ford 5.0 and last was Ford Ecoboost. Dodge and Toyota were real close but Dodge won because the dealer was (really) much more willling to wheel and deal. We wound up leaving with a 2014 Ram 1500 Hemi Laramie crew cab for the same payment we were making for the 4Runner.

We really liked the 4Runner, and hope it winds up in the hands of someone who will appreciate it as much as we did. We weren't huge participants on this forum but lurked every now and then to see what was being done with these wagons. As far as car forums go, this is one of the better ones and we wish you guys and gals the best of luck with your 4Runners down the road.

Decided to give the spare a shot..... Only thing worse than a flat is an non-repairable gash in the sidewall of a tire with less than 3500 miles on it. I didn't even see what it was or hear anything at all. Just noticed the TPMS light and pulled into a gas station.

Trying to decide if I should stick to the General Grabber UHP (no issues until this) or just get downsize to 17 for something different and more durable.

Either way, I'll be getting winter tires shortly so I have some time to decide.

I don't know if you've ever owned a dodge before, but they're usually rife with problems. They're known to "fall apart" around the 50k mark. I had a 1500....a great truck...then like most dodge's the transmission started to fail. Dodge basically mounted a monster engine with a weak transmission. My coworkers dodge started losing power a few weeks back, ended up being a cracked cylinder head. Their diesel models are almost bullet proof, especially with the cummins, but they're still finicky. It's hit or miss with those trucks AND I don't know if you know this or not, but Dodge is coming out with a 6 cyl diesel is a 1500 mid to late next year. The one thing I'll say is that you can't beat the way they look inside. I remember when I first sat in my dodge..it was an easy sell!!

Still on the road

Just out still camping, surfing, and running. Here are a few pics.

Best of luck with the new vehicle. 4Runner is not the best tow vehicle :) *ALWAYS* drive what you want, and what fits with your needs - PERIOD. If the Dodge doesn't work out, you always have a Tundra to fall back on. Failing that, just buy a Raptor because it's awesome as well.

Photographed a fine Italian rear end

I thought I timed it perfectly. Damn mirror...

Pretty sure that's a 458. Tundra TSS and an FJ in the mirror.

I always admire your photos.. I've been shooting for a couple years and recently got better gear.. I continue to struggle with the proper settings.

For example - your first picture is spectacular.. What are the settings?
