What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Drained and refilled my rear diff with Red Line 75W85 synthetic now that I've hit almost 46,000 miles. When cleaning off the drain plug magnet found a small metal washer, or shim. It's about 5mm across and paper thin; less than 1mm. Very easy to bend by hand. I don't know what this could be from. It shows no signs of damage like it was ripped off of something or broke, it is just bent in a few places. My diff has never given any indication that anything is wrong, so I'm not too worried. Other than that the flush and fill took less than one hour. Hardest part is pumping all that thick gear oil in. Interesting thing was it took almost 3.5 quarts to fill and the manual says 2.75 to 2.85 quarts.

Mine took too much too. Turns out the axle wasn't level so apparently it ran to one end of the axle, filling that end of the axle tube. Level your axle and open the fill hole. IF nothing comes out, you're fine. If it does, just let it drain until it stops.

Got a day old, stock TE stuck in some snow.... took 3 hours to dig it out. Don't let the sun fool you, it was a solid -30 degrees out. Also, stock tires may as well be used on a road bike..... absolutely useless.

For sure the stock tires suck in snow, but not sure how you got stuck in that little amount....

yeah, [MENTION=2798]JB.[/MENTION] it still gives me pause when i'm pumping so much into the (front) slip yoke and seeing absolutely zero movement—just none. makes me think the old stuff is dried/impacted in there... and how much more would i need to pump to push the old stuff out past the seal?

i can get expansion from the rear within a reasonable # of pumps, but have been too meek to keep going so far. now that you've been pumping until seepage regularly, how many pumps would you estimate it takes? (standard or mini-gun?)

For the front, I've got a note here that says if took 20 pumps to get to first budge last time, which is as far as I've been going on the front lately, although it's been taken to seepage a couple of times with no apparent ill effects. I think I can recall putting 30 or 40 squeezes in there in the past to make it seep.

30-40 front and 70-100 rear... wow. i've definitely been conservative. thanks very much for following up and posting what you've been doing/ found with yours. i'm gonna let it ride as is for a few weeks and go back and hit the slip yokes again with the moly.

Didn't really do this in my 4Runner today but it's for my 4Runner!

I should have taken a pic when I originally buried it. The pics I uploaded were taken after we dug it out and had it moved back a bit. It was only a matter of getting out of the ruts and onto the packed snow at that point.

Initially it was essentially high centered. I ventured off the packed snow path and the snow underneath basically dropped out.

I come from two FJ's. On the second one, I ran some pretty aggressive snow tires, similar to Duratracs, as well as a lift. Doubt it would have made it out of there either.

Still, a very noob move on my part. I'm not proud of it.

I upgraded my rotors and pads as well a couple weeks ago. I am also using the Green Stuff pads. What are your thoughts on them so far?

Only have about 100 miles on them but stock pads were shot. Feel great so far but will need more time. I had hawk pads on my old M3 and wasn't thrilled with them, very noisy. I'm happy with the green stuff pads.

Finished today, tightened it all up, plumbed it a bit more user friendly, wired to only work with ignition on, setup up a switch in the engine compartment. Man getting a lead through the factory firewall grommets is a bit of a PITA init. Sorry not shooting with a nice camera, it is what it is :noidea:

You know what that OBA setup is begging for? an aux battery :bolt:

NOTE: Not shown but I actually elongated the bottom compressor mounting holes to get a little bit of leeway, making bolting the compressor on blind a bit easier.

Good deal. Yeah, I was curious about others thoughts and seeing how we both installed them around the same time. I'm pretty happy with them so far as well.
