Another Day in the Sand = N Nevada

It’s another day of wandering around in the Hot Springs Range area. It’s starting to rain this morning; cool for this time of year at 52 degrees; wind blowing in from the north at a fairly steady 20 mph.

I wondered the track north along the east flank of the range for about twenty miles. Then set out west across the saddle towards Brady’s Hot Springs. Halfway across, near the old repeater station I took a rough track to the south towards “Rocky”, the highest point in the range.

The track ran straight towards the mountain and ended at a dune field that wound around the north flank of the mountain. I stopped just a few yards into the non-brush covered part of the dunes as it started getting very mushy.

I eventually reached the highway at Brady’s and drove south in moderately heavy rain back to Fernley. Another great run in the 4Runner.

Well, not today but the family took a road trip to South Dakota over the memorial weekend and when I got back, had my Gobi and accessories installed.

Spotted you on 470, I was crawling west as you zipped along to the east today around 3:30ish.

Catching up a bit, so only one actually done today (wheels), the rest over the past couple of weeks.

-FJ 8 Hole Wheels
-Rigid SR 20" and 6"
-Plastidip front and rear bumper inserts
-Applied Trail Emblem to tailgate
-Installed and wired up Truck Toys NSA Remote Relay and Fuse Box, controlled by digital remote; no fishing wires through firewall, nor hacking up dash for switches. Love the box! (think S-pod with no wires in cab)
-Built tray and support bracket for NSA Box
-Rescued two very cool pups during Houston floods after finding them with no tags, collars (loaned them each one from our dog in pics), or microchips. Was thankful to locate owner via lost/found website after fostering for 4 days. Come to find out they are in the process of being trained for hog hunting in South Texas. If they fail their hunt tests we may be adopting them permanently!

Added new backup lights to the SR5. Very similar to what we are running on the TE but the TE mounts behind the CBI bumper. On these you have to cut a hole and bolt the "flush mount" lights to the bumper. Sticks out about 1/4 inch.

I got my sub installed from my old car. Only problem is, I cut the box so that it would fit behind the third row and now it just sounds like garbage. Gotta buy a new low profile/shallow mount sub soon

Received the remainder of my parts for rear hatch handle panel swap (black TRDP/TE in place of color-matching SR5), as well as TRDP rear bumper valance (black) and black 3M wrap for roof rails.

Great feeling, though I'm not sure how to get the dang rear handle panel loose & swapped out. I searched this site but only came away with some 3rd/4th gen results and some 5th gen teases..

Does anyone have insight/instructions for removing the inside rear hatch door panel so that I may gain access to the back of handle panel?

Got my rig back after the install, now running Bud Built AL skids and Fox 2.5 w/resi's and DSC adjusters on all corners along with TC UCA's. Really happy with the initial ride but will take some time to dial everything in.

Picked up some WeatherTech mats today from their manufacturing facility. 45 minutes from arrival to departure when there were 2 people in front of me. Add in the traffic, and it would've probably been smarter to just have them shipped. But while I was there, I had a good laugh at the $150 license plate frames.

1st and 2nd row (digital fits) are nice. The cargo mat is going back, as I think the Toyota all-weather mat fits better.

Joined the 34" tire club today. Had 285/75-17 BFG KM2's installed. So far on road they don't rub at all, even without a BMC. I will have to find out how much I have to trim when the suspension flexes. I like how they fill the wheel wells better than the 285/70's and this ain't no Prius so I don't care about gas mileage.

Drove 11 hours including an unscheduled detour. For those driving the central part of the country this summer take note the US-60/62 bridge across the Mississippi is closed until May 2016. Detour available via I-57 and US-51 to cross the Ohio on the regular bridge.

A few days old, but I got back from a Family camping trip/tour of National parks (Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce and Zion). No major offroading but I had to get the wheels dirty so we went down the white rim trail and did some BLM roads around Capitol reef.

Ran Shoe Creek Jeep Trail in GWNF this morning after camping last night in the rain. The trail was much gnarlier than I recall four years ago! Really a great trail. And I know this post is worthless without pics! Sorry, I was solo and in somewhat of a hurry.

The best way I can explain it is, the stock halogen bulb gives of a yellow dull light (as I'm sure you know) the HIDs are very crisp and WHITE, you can clearly tell the difference and the "cut off" is perfect. No issues with on coming traffic and looks great. I have LED everything in my truck and the HIDs in 5500k are a perfect match. I hope that helps.. I got spoiled with this look in my STI and missed it with the stock 4-runner lighting.
