Installed my sliders today.

what's the purpose? I know there are probably a million threads but I have yet to find a good explanation about what the sliders do?
which ones did you get? I like the low profile.

The main purpose is protection. They are probably the most common form of armor put on a vehicle. The help you to "slide" over rocks or stumps without causing body damage as they are mounted directly to the frame. They can support the weight of that side of the vehicle so they can be used in conjunction with a high lift jack for recovery as well.
Some serve a dual purpose and also function as a step. These provide a minimal amount of step assistance, but like you said are nice and low profile. They are also good at preventing door dings from idiots that open their doors into you at a parking lot
These are Rocky Road Supersliders.
The slider part runs directly under the rocker panel and is make of hitch steel and is incredibly strong. The upward "step" bar is the "super" part providing additional body protection.

Drove up past Boulder on the new duratracs (and UCA's) for a charity bike ride, they are actually more quiet than the Silent Armors I had before. The SA's had gotten much louder over the last 5k or so and there is some hum ,but a much lower tone and I don't notice with the radio on. Better traction was the only goal, I seem to be finding dirt a lot more these days and I've been going to this Goodyear tire store for almost 15 years so the duratracs were an easy choice. They did a good alignment with the new UCA's and no vibrations at all.

Fitment was good. Not great. The instructions said that the plastic piece behind the front tires will need to be sanded a bit. Wrong. They had to be chopped substantially before fitting back on. The width of the mounting bolt hole locations were imperfect by a couple millimeters. There is a large space to allow for variation in frame bolt location, but the mounting plates on both sliders were built just a bit to close together making for an imperfect match with the existing frame bolt holes.
The kit includes 6 bolts for each side and says not to allow the sliders to hang from the frame until all 6 bolts are tightened down. Well the hole where the bottom bolt on the middle mounting block is is not a threaded hole and no bolt will go in there. They did provide some spacers for making more space for the fuel line on the drivers side, but it was unnecessary. I'm going to image all of this and email it to them so they can address this for future sets made. I don't know if there have been changes made down there since they designed these or what, but a couple discrepancies. No big deal and I'll probably have them spot welded on also so no worries. Just a couple notable points.
Wait time was great. Received 3 wks after order made. 2 wks to build and 1 week in transit. At $539 powdercoated and shipped I really can't complain.

Funny story: Ranger shows up and asks the guys: "Where is he going? Who in their right mind would bring a new truck here? Are you sure he is the owner of that vehicle?"

Guess he's never met any Arabs... we all Drive it like we stole it :driving:
