What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Went nuts with the Plastidip again... still drying after 5 coats. Might do a 6th in gloss.

One interesting note... The ICONS come with the boots now.

Don't say I did not warn you about the brake fluid and what a PITA it can be. That stuff defies gravity..

For anyone ever attempting brake line extensions for LT. Remove the brackets and replace the flexible hoses on a bench (makes it so much easier). However, you will still have brake fluid going everywhere.

I have not figured out a way to completely drain the lines without making a mess.

I would also suggest removing your diff and gas tank skids if you have them (mine are both RCI steel). First, they just collect brake fluid as it drains all over the place. Second, it would have been much easier to clean things up without them in place.

Additionally, we had some small issues with the gas tank skid interfering with the driver side spring during the install. The axle moves in some unexpected directions with the lower LCAs disconnected and various jacks and stands in different positions during the course if the install. Everything is fine when buttoned back up but again, it would have been a little less worrisome without the skid.

Finally got rid of that ridiculous Y pipe. So much better. More clearance and power... No more crush section after the cross member. I can now raise up my transfer case skid brace an inch or so.
How'd does it feel and sound ??? @wfo9
Your not worried about the heat transfer on the y pipe to the transfer case oil pan and drive shaft ??? The fj & taco guys were having this issue... thats why I had mine encased in inconel cuz of it....

There seems to be a noticeable gain in power. It really screams when the VVTI cicks in. I may take a video with sound tomorrow....

It's still a wimpy v6, but at least it is now an angry :gun5: little V6 that is uncorked. If I put some smaller tires on it.. + the gearing... I think it might even get to 60 under 7 seconds.

Hopefully, there will be a little gain in MPG also.

Excited to get mine installed but have to go thru the paces... picking up my y pipe tomorrow from Advance Thermal Products. And then dyno on thursday to get a before baseline power and then install the y pipe on Friday ... then dyno it after xmas...

Brought my 2 week old 4Runner LE to the dealer today and convinced them to turn off the seat belt chime. They kept telling me no, Toyota says you can't do that for safety reasons. I showed them the owners guide, page 485 and 491 that Toyota says you can turn it off. Scan tool required.

Got home, installed Husky mud flaps. Had to take off the auto running boards to adjust them further back. The running board sticks out into the rear wheel well about 1/2 inch now but no big deal. Maybe this is why Toyota says no mudflaps with auto running boards.

This reminds me of something I have wondered for awhile... With a full sized spare like that, do you cycle it in with normal rotations so they wear evenly or do you use it only as needed?

Well for me I'll use as needed. Reason I got a full size spare is because I had something go in the sidewall and patched it so I moved it to the space and got a new tire.

Installed aluminum RCI skids

Looks good. I installed those a couple months ago as well but have had a rattle when in reverse. I went under there today and started hitting each plate. I think it's coming from the trans plate where it meets the transfer skid.

You having any issues with a rattle? Need to find a solution to this.

Chris

We went camping again. Love me some El Nino, when you can camp with your 5 year old in the Northern Catskills in December and she doesn't complain about the cold.

She caught salamanders and tadpoles. Our whole area seems stuck in late October.

Then we took the long way home.

Actually yes, the exhaust was rubbing the transmission skid plate and rattle not only in reverse but also full turn. I bought few washers and added between the cross members support and the truck frame (bolts that hold the TRD skid integration and the transmission skid) in order to bring down the skid. I added between the frame and the crossmember because the bolt protection tabs in the crossmember make it harder to add the washers between the crossmember and the skid.

Hope this help

Merry Christmas

We drove a hundred miles in the So Cal snow to find this tree in the San Bernardino mountains. Thank God for locking diff' and Atrac. :yo:
The obligatory Christmas tree shot.
Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas. Come by for some hot apple cider and hang a few ornaments.
