I did ask them to do the windshield as part of the install but again I'll have to wait for low temps to see if that works OK. Does yours activate only with low enough temperatures? I was kinda impressed that was even a possibility.

Yes there's a temp probe somewhere on the interior of the vehicle. They will come on only when the interior temp is below the threshold you have them program. I had them leave mine at the highest setting 42F so that it helps to clear frost as well as any serious snow/ice.
Click here to download the installation manual. Starting on page 19 is a list of options only the installers can change when they've got the system powered up in their hands. I printed off the list and selected a few different options from the default and they guys were happy to do it during install. It sounds like they're going to have to check these options to remove your panic-during-start problem. Might not hurt to take them a couple other things you didn't know it would do.
I ended up having to go back to my installer after about 2 weeks and have them change the unlock option to unlock all doors instead of factory once for driver twice for all. Because of the 2-way communication it the remote wasn't sending the double tap signal quickly enough to be recognized. I also had them change the run time to 25 minutes so that I wasn't extending the remote run so much. And that's the only problem I've had with this system.

I love the ability to remote start from the back of the store before I can see the truck. I have yet to be far away enough for it not to get signal. Best was having a nice cool truck to get into because I was able to start from my last fishing spot across the lake from the launch! This is such a better system than the factory crap that died on me after 2 years.
Make sure they enabled the pause/errand feature for you too! You can stop, park, and with truck running hit the remote start. The remote start system takes over. You can remove the key, leave the truck, and it will auto-lock the doors after you open/close them, and then run for your regular remote start time. I use this all the time when I have to run in for an errand and have the dog with me. That way she gets AC and country music while I'm in picking up a gun, grabbing a loaf of bread, dropping off a package, or whatever else!

Awesome, will print that off when I get to work and have them adjust some settings, it's a shame they are not user adjustable but I'll take it, probably less for me to mess up!

Need some opinions. Had an idea in mind for my wheels, and pulled one off to try it out. I'm short cash for new wheels right now, so I thought this might do in the meantime. As soon as it dried I instantly peeled it off, I think I should go darker, maybe black to contrast better with my MGM paint. As is, there was just too much grey going on. Anyway, tell me what you guys think
(Step by step guide for those interested)

Started off taking apart the center cap

Used 1" electrical tape to mask (freehand by following the grooves in the aluminum) off a "billet" edge around the wheel. Used electrical tape due to its elasticity

Attached a washer to a thin long bolt to protect the contact point where the lug will be on the wheel. The dip tends to pull or peel if you don't protect this area. I simply removed between coats so it wouldn't dry to the wheel

After 4 coats of gunmetal and 2 thick coats of Graphite Metalizer

Center caps. Red logo for a "TRD Pro" look. I didn't touch the aluminum ring

Pretty certain it was your 4runner I was checking out in Silverton. Shrockworks front and rear? It was nice to finally see the bumpers in person. FWIW I like the rear but couldn't get on board with the front and certainly don't use it in the capacity to need it. Very nice looking 4runner

Antman, those links talk about the 2010-2013 removal of the air dam and fairing. My fairing is all one connected and molded piece. The plastic in the photo is an air channel, but why not just let the air move directly into that spot?? I also removed the piece it connects to which was much wider and set into the bumper. The shop forman at Toyota doesn't see any reason why it would be a problem but, as others have said, it would take an engineer to really say for sure one way other another.

That sounds right, we were in the area all week. I was a couple trucks down for a while but then we left after grabbing food. I saw a couple other 5th gens the 1st weekend a inferno and a Mag grey with a roof top tent at the gas station labor day weekend but didn't see them again then a a stock black trail on Imogene on Thursday.

I did this, because I'm tired of that being under my back seat, and it's way more accessible on those back country camping trips when it's just inside the rear glass and not under a pile of shit.

Not going to argue the legality of it, I don't really care, but if anyone else is looking for a way to mount theirs...

This is a disposable shotgun (NEF Pardner Protector, bought it for $100 used, clone of the 870) in a Big Sky Racks SBR-1 ($57.00 at Cabelas). Big Sky also makes an SBR-2 which holds two guns. I actually bought the SBR-2 because they were out of the SBR-1, but I simply didn't add the extra clamps on the back side for the second gun so this is basically the SBR-1.

The rack is very stout, nicely finished aluminum. If you look at the link, you will see that there is a padded middle section with a velcro band that is designed to secure the gun, I opted not to install that in the interests of keeping this nice and trim to the headliner. I have a fastex buckle holding the gun in and will use a short length of braided wire / cable lock to secure the gun against theft as needed. You could also build a aluminum lock assembly using aluminum plate and a clevis pin (see old pic, below).

By placing it here I was able to maximize two features: first, no drilling required. Just remove the coat hooks and bolt this up in their place. Second, it's accessible without opening the hatch if you roll the window down.

A few pics including from outside to give you an idea how invisible this thing is. I had one in my Xterra and no one ever noticed it, and it survived some harsh use in Moab and the like.

Is there any reason that type of mount couldn't be used closer to the driver? I've wanted something like that, but just behind the front seats for easy access. Big sky's web site is lacking for detail on what mounts work. Also, does anyone know if the area near rear passenger grab bars are double walled?

When I first got rid of my Xterra and got the 4Runner, I tried to install the mount in the same place that I had it in the Xterra, which was just behind the driver's head rest, kind of like where a shotgun would hang in a cop car. You can see in the last picture, which is the Xterra, that the rack is mounted to the passenger grab handle bolt holes - there are two on each side so it made for a very stable platform.

This involves pulling the passenger rear grab handles to try to find a mounting surface, and ultimately I determine that there is not a really good surface to mount this to in that area. Your mileage may vary, maybe I didn't look hard enough or well enough, but I ended up deciding that it wasn't worth the effort. For me, so as to not have to drill into an unknown surface, I opted to go all the way in the back. Part of the problem is that those grab handles are not screwed to anything, they are clipped in, and the surface is actually fairly flimsy.

Quick Fist Gobi Install

Simple, cheap, and clamps are heavy duty for this application.
I also used a bit of bike inner tube under the pipe ground clamps to prevent scaring the Gobi side rail.
