What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

This was the past weekend on my Mojave Road trip. Some cool dudes and cool rigs. These photos were from a abandoned mine next to the lava tubes. Fun place to explore and take photos. If you haven't done the Mojave, you are definitely missing out. It's a pretty epic trip and can be done in a weekend.

Nice. I'd be terrified of mudslides in that kind of weather but I'm a vagina lol.

Washington has so many freakin' rock slides on forest service roads it makes me super paranoid when I'm driving past them thinking my 4Runner is going to cause one.

That was my biggest concern as well. I was looking at where the water was flowing to/from the whole way up - any sign of washout and I was turning around and getting out of there. This particular road looked like it had been used pretty recently for logging and actually had a lot of drainage pipes to divert water away from/under the road.

Is this in the Olympics or elsewhere? Most of the roads I've explored have been in the Olympics but they can be pretty sketchy a lot of the time. I've only gone a little ways into the Cascades, nothing that went too far from US-2. Waiting for this damn weather to get nice again.

North Cascades, just off of Hwy 2, near Skykomish. I think it was NF-6517. I will agree that the Olypmics seem to have a lot more slides. I drove the entirety of Hwy 101 a few months back and there were a ton of places cut down to one lane due to slides. I know they tore down a couple of dams a few years ago and certain areas are now getting road washouts too. You have to hike something like 10 miles to get to the Olympic Hot Springs now.

So I changed my oil last week and found something very interesting. To fill you in on the whole story, I bought my truck brand new January of 2017. I changed my oil at 2K, and again at 5K, and I will change it every 5k for the time I own it. With all that said, I have always used Toyota 0-20 and a Toyota oil filter. I just rolled 10K miles so it was time for it's 3rd oil change. I deiced to go with Mobil 1 0-20 this time and I still used the OEM Toyota oil filter. Crazy thing, my gas mileage increased by 2 MPG just like that. Very interesting results.

We took the ferry over to south core island on the N. Carolina outer banks....what a beautiful place to camp....anywhere you want....no paved roads...right on the beach. This was the sunrise coming up one morning we where there...snuck away and took this while everyone was still sleeping.

OK so what was your other oil ? Regular dino oil ? Could see a slight increase from switching to full synthetic, but 2 mpg ? Thats great for you if that sticks around.

Rooftop sun shower

Just bought a Waterport from Costco. The new version and on sale!

Nice looking water tank. Does it heat up in the sun? Looks hand and easier to use that a camping sun shower.

I had my sun shower out camping in Mojave NP, in the So Cal desert this weekend. I put my sun shower in a wide, flat Styrofoam box with a lid (a fish ice box salvaged from a fish shop) and sometimes a clear plastic sheet to keep the wind off. It get's very hot if I leave it out all day. It's hard lifting 5 gallons of water up on the roof in the box. Then I need to tie down the soft box and lid so it can't blow off on the drive out.

I'm thinking of making a better sun shower from the largest black PVC drain pipe I can find and a couple of hose fittings. Once it's on the roof rack it only needs gravity to flow.

Nope it was the Toyota brand 0-20 full synthetic as required which I've actually heard is nothing special at all. Someone makes it for Toyota, who knows who, generally whoever bids the cheapest. I run synthetic even where not required but there is no option with our engines. I was getting 14.5 avg, I'm now at 16.5 avg. I agree, not at all what I expected to see.

I got this a few days ago at Sportsman Warehouse for 150. Used it over the weekend and notice that the connection at the bottom was seeping water out. It might be a deflect so I'm returning it. This morning when I was going to email support, I saw the costco deal and immediately order it when I saw its 30 dollars cheaper

I like the product, it small enough that you can put it behind the seat. I notice the pressure not as strong after the first min. It did flow out for a good 5-6 mins abeit weaker pressure. I'm going to buy a small bike pump so I can pump air into it if I need pressure. Overall I'm happy with it.

After browsing Instagram one night I came across Arc Light LEDS and their new 5th gen 4Runner LED light kits. They made 40 of them and I was quick to pull the trigger.

The front lights have dimmer switches and buttons to flip from white to red. Really slick setup.

I also picked up a battery voltage booster. Figured why not. Not sure if I'll use it. Still planning out my electrical upgrade route.

Perfect fit.

Measured twice and drilled a couple of times. Started out with a small drill bit and worked my way up test fitting the part and making sure I was keeping the holes lined up where needed and not bigger than needed.

I was impressed how well this came together. I was a bit worried about the buttons lining up but it was easy.

Only picture I have of the front lights installed in Red.

I picked up their rear hatch lights as well. These are super bright LEDs that have a dimmer switch.

Out with the old.... in with the new.

All set up and ready to drill some holes.

Color is weird from the camera phone. These are super bright.

First impressions, great product! These are a bit pricey but great quality and a cool upgrade.

Radiator Cap

Did a fluid change yesterday, took it off today to check fluid level, got clumsy and dropped it. The ^%$# Skid plates stopped it. Guess I'm taking one down tomorrow.
