Just curious, what do those cost to rent?Rented this thing. Heading out in the a.m. to camp up near the Yukon River for a couple days [emoji4]
...More Progress On My Sleeping Platform-Part-2...
...Howdy, Again!
...in post 3318, I gave Y'all some pics of the bases for my sleeping platform...
...Here I will show ya the progress on the plywood platform itself...with additional support from welded steel parts....
...The platform is in two pieces, hinged in front on the driver's side so I can still open my console when not sleeping...plus it gives my right arm more room so I am not crowded by the platform while I drive....
...To support the 'wing' that is hinged, when closed, I devised and built a sliding wooden brace made from oak up near the front...and had the metal support beam in the rear extend forward 3 additional inches past the plywood to hold up that end...
...I have included some pics of the development stages...added adhesive-backed felt to all the sliding surfaces...to keep the wood pieces in place...and to keep them from rattling annoyingly as I drive around!....
...( the bolts are just temporary to hold pieces in place for now...All parts will be bolted together with nylon locking-nuts in final assembly )...
...The steel supports also include a small attachment to bolt to the rear seat back metal bracket that would normally hold the seat-back in position...I had the fabricator build this to give extra lateral support for the platform....
...figure might as well use what is already existing in the vehicle to keep the platform in place as much as possible, ya see?...
...I gave the 3/4" maple plywood several coats of polyurethane-sealant to protect the wood...keep it dry...keep it from swelling in the heat and rain....and give it added strength....
...Also gave the garage-floor some sealant when I dropped the quart can....mostly still full..while trying to clean up the rim after the last coat!...DOH!...%#@!&*&^%$%!!!...

Installed the Morimoto LED XB Fog Lights
Those eBay coupons just made it really hard not to buy these.
Much nicer white color compared to stock. I'm also digging the excellent wide and focused light across the bottom. This will be so helpful for those foggy nights in the Catskill mountains of New York.
Now to work on the low and high beams. For functional purposes, I think I am going to stick with halogens. Philips X-treme Vision is on my short list.

It's probably more expensive up here in Alaska than it is in your neck of the woods. We paid a little over $100 a day, for three days. The person renting it out told us to hold on to it for a couple more days if we like though [emoji1] We used the website outdoorsy.com

How much are things like that, I assume since old military it's pretty high.

I found ours on CL. There is a Facebook Group m416/m101 Military trailers that has postings for them as well. You can also buy them on Military Auction Sites although m416’s are pretty rare on those. Usually the more sought after m416 can go from $500 - $5k depending on condition, modifications and location. The m101 which is bigger and heavier can easily be found for under $1k if you’re willing to put a little sweat equity into it. I paid just under $2k for ours but its extremely clean, no rust and has a custom lid that works with internal lift struts, and all new electrical that switched it from a 24v to typical 12v wiring. I’m figuring after about $1k for the axle swap (not necessary but a choice I’m making to run Toyota hubs and interchangeable spare between vehicle and trailer) and another $1k for a custom rack and I’ll get an equivalent or better than new “off-road” trailer that would cost between $6-8k.
You can obviously build your own for a lot less, but I do not have the tools, space, time or skills at this point to do it. Check out Expedition Portal, Ih8mud, and Steel Soldiers. EP also usually has a lot of trailers posted in their classifieds as well as some awesome builds that I personally got most of my inspriration and info from. PM me if you have any other questions and I can give you some more details. I am hardly an expert but over a year of reading and researching and you tend to stumble on some knowledge.

Followed Jdtaylor42’s guide from 2015 and put a TRD Valance on ... was a clip short so used a little LEGO and loctite for one! One lesson learned be careful with those initial pop out clips from the radiator cover they will jump out and down into places you can’t reach quickly

Pulled off the stock roof rack and cross rails, waterless washed the roof, followed by clay bar, followed by sealing with Sonax Polymer Netshield and installed the feet for the Gobi. Will hopefully have the actual rack on tomorrow then get around to the ladder and wind fairing.
Hardest part was claybarring off all the shit on the roof from two years of not really being focused on when getting cleaned.

Tending to the driveline
Today I changed out the fluids in both diffs and the transfer case. at 45K miles the rear looked pretty murky, the front a bit less so and the transfer case actually looked surprisingly good. Switched to Amsoil synthetic fluid, first time trying it so we'll see how that goes.
While I was under there I went ahead and did the SCUBA mod and extended the breathers up into the jack holder area.
I also mounted my LED light bar behind the lower grille, but not wired yet so no pics of that...
