How'd you mitigate the rubbing?
Definitely a good season so far, I'm hoping it runs through May! Also looking for some more Portland area people to do runs with so if you're planning to in the coming months please let me know.

Temp installed the Expedition Essentials T4RPAM. I was kinda surprised how much gap there was when I dry fit it so I went with some strong double sided tape for the time being. Also not so sure about the open back exposing the wiring when you look through the windshield from the outside. It may grow on me but if not at least I didn't drill holes in the piece of trim that's impossible to purchase from Toyota without the head unit.

You nailed some of my concerns when I saw this online. I also didn't care for the large USB ports and the dim blue light. There are much smaller USB ports you could add to something like this without any light distracting you. I was hoping they'd come out with something smaller and slimline much like their Tacoma one. Looking forward to hearing your continuing thoughts. On the plus side, it does provide a great amount of mounts for everything you would need without having to drill holes all over your dash or suction things to the windshield.

Luckily the USB can be swapped out and the blue seas one they carry as an option is smaller and doesn't include the backlighting.
I emailed them the other day to ask if they have plans to release a slimmer version like the Tacoma and they replied right away (points for great customer service).
Unfortunately they don't have plans to redesign the 4Runner model but they are releasing a back plate as an option. They said the price will be $15.
Depending on how it looks that may convince me to mount it permanently, but I'm also waiting to see if any stereo manufactures catch up and release wireless Carplay head units. That'd solve the phone mount and leave my Garmin InReach and GoPro for the PAM, plus I wouldn't care as much drilling an aftermarket facia.

I wanted to like this setup, but, I dont. Most of the same reasons you mention.
I dont like where it positions things for one thing, I want the tablet to sit where that bracket is, not sticking way out from it.
I ended up bolting a RAM mount to the side of the radio trim for my phone on a custom mag mount.
I have a USB quick charger inside the dash with the wire coming out just below the mount.
I will be making my own mount eventually for a tablet also so it sits right in the clock area.

Sounds good I'll be following along. Followed you on IG now as well. You have some good travel snaps. That back plate sounds like a good idea to fill in the gaps.

No need to be sorry, I'm not so sure about it either. I'm really surprised there isn't a larger market for this kind of thing. If I could weld I'd be tempted to make one myself but my skills only cover making with wood.

I like mine, but like you I wish they came with a cover for the back. The placement for my tablet and phone are perfect for me.

Inspired! Not interested in spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars on aftermarket drawers. :thumb:
As a side note, my beaver step is the best $40 I’ve yet spent on my rig.
I took advantage of the good weather in virginia beach and familiarized myself with the jack and other tire recovery things. Also got a $5 vent phone holder from target that works surprisingly well (better than the $20 dash mount that didn't work). And lastly, I checked on how my current tires are doing, since I'm impatient to get 285/70/R17 off-road tires on. But I've got a good ways to go with these a/s ones, i guess...
could anyone confirm that getting a 3/2" spacer lift, keeping stock wheels, and putting on 285/70/R17 A/T tires would be okay? I haven't seen anyone yet running that and want to know about potential rubbing, driving issues, etc. Much thanks!

285/70/17 tire on a stock SR5 wheel which is only 7" wide is not the best idea and a lot tire shops won't mount the tires for you. It's been done many times with the TRD Pro wheels which are only 7" wide also but it does go against manufacturer recommendations. A lot of those people end up with wheel spacers to avoid rubbing. You will likely have to trim the inner edge of the front bumper and move the fender liner but that will be the case with any wheel you run.
