What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Acts as a filter so to speak for the air that vents out of the engine and into the intake. That air carries some nasty combination of water and oil which cakes up in your intake and on your valves. I emptied mine after about 1600 miles to show a friend what it does and it was about 1/3 full. Mine is full of mostly water at each 5K mile oil change. Looks like chunky chocolate milk.

What model did you get? looking to do this when I do my snorkel.

Finally pulled the trigger on lift + tires. Birthday present for myself :dancin:

Went Bilstein 5100s all around with Wheelers T1 coils up front and Wheelers T13 coils in the rear. Getting K02s, still deciding between 275 vs 285...will probably end up going 275. Really don't want to trim anything if possible.

Just a cheap can off EBAY They're all the same, there is nothing special about the high dollar ones. Only thing you need when you buy this one is hose from NAPA or wherever. The hose it comes with is a joke, not vacuum hose by any means.

Buddy and I busted out my Shrockworks RB install this weekend.

Looks great. Is the carrier easily removable do you know? Most times I wouldn't need it, but first trip I went on, I noticed a bunch of scratches and some hang ups on my spare with it being under the vehicle. Be nice to just put it on when I need to.

Buddy and I busted out my Shrockworks RB install this weekend.

It looks great! I have considered this bumper because of it simplicity and clean lines. My only hang ups with it are how low the spare appears to sit and the lack of the backup camera relocate. Do you think there's room to mount a set of Maxtrax vertically on the backside of the Jerry Can mount? I'd like to put a pair on the back and a 4gal Rotopax fuel can on the front.

Did you relocate your camera and if so how did you do it? Are you getting any rattles out of the swing arm or tire carrier? How is the pivot/hinge, does it seem durable and easily serviceable? How long did it take you to get it from the time that you ordered?

I did my own version of the camera relocated with a cheap 12v camera and a harness that taps into the back of my head unit. Just a standard toyota aftermarket harness.

You could probably figure out a way to get a maxtrax in if you were just running two rotopax the narrow way, like CBI does theirs.

Very solid, no rattles. Total time was a little over 3 months.

Yeah you could in theory since its just one big bolt holding the arm on, you would also have to deal with relocating the license plate each time which really wouldnt be a big deal.

I would echo this... somewhat. In the same vein, you could easily got to ebay and find a cheap, universal "cold air kit" that had the correct sized intake pipe and filter. If you wanted the same filtration you could upgrade the filter element to a nicer brand and have the same function for a fraction of the price. It would just look and feel cheap compared to some of the name-brand (like TRD) options.

Whatever you do: don't go cheap on the hoses. Find something that has appropriate heat and material ratings. If it's a bare hose consider wire loom to give a more factory look and help prevent chaffing. I went WAY overboard on the hose (high pressure/temp, braided) but it's worth the peace of mind for me.

Most people would tell you that they aren't worth it anyway... so it's REALLY not worth it to spend extra when a $20 kit would work. That's a fine opinion to have, too. It's your rig. There are LOTS of things you can do nearly exactly the same and decide to spend $50 or $500.

Efforts from the past few days. Major face lift with the [MENTION=80984]MT4X4[/MENTION] Fortress Bumper and [MENTION=87816]Baja Designs[/MENTION] lighting. Super happy with how it turned out but goodness was it a learning experiencing installing a metal bumper! Also it's clearly cherry blossom season in Portland.

Oil Change Today

More messy than usual. The bottom plug would not come out of the filter housing so I had to take the whole thing down. Trapped it in a vise gently to remove the plug, threw away the plastic drain tool.

Cleaned the plug, oiled the O ring and put it back at 9.5 ft/lbs. Hope it works next time.

Ruined two shop rags and a sheet of cardboard. Reset the 5K reminder.

Got my TRD Intake mostly installed. Need to do some wire wrapping tomorrow, and figure out how to tie up the wire bundles, but it's all installed and no codes on my test drive.
Ordered it during the 40th TRD Anniversary sale, and I arrived today.
Don't know why people say it's loud, because unless I'm stepping on it, I can't hear a difference, and even then it's not really loud and certainly not annoying. But it could be because the frequency falls in the range where I have hearing loss. Even the stereo is on the quiet side.
I did pick up a 1/10 of a MPG on my test drive, but that is just anecdotal.
