What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Finished modding my Detours of Maine spare tire carrier, painted it and installed. Still need to wire the license plate LED, but hopefully that wont take too long. Should keep me satisfied until im ready for a full metal bumper.

Did you have him fab the hi-lift jacket mount or did you do it yourself?

My plan for the LED license plate lights was to wire it into a 5-pin trailer plug. That way it is easily removable when opening the swing out.

Not much of a mod since I've only had my 4runner a week but I replaced the crappy plastic rear license plate frame that the dealership put on (with self tapping screws...) that was banging around on the rear hatch like crazy. Put on this silicone one from amazon and will probably have one of these on every car I have from now on. Simple, cheap, I like it.

I hope not for bullets. That corner gets hot as balls being close to the exhaust manifold. Looks cool though.

It gets nowhere near hot enough to cook off a round.

You would be perfectly fine storing ammunition in that location.

I did it myself. I bought a mount made for a Jeep JK, stripped the paint, then welded it onto the swingout. I asked Mark if he had any plans for a hi lift mount like this and he said no so DIY was my only option.

I was going to tap into the factory trailer plug wiring behind the receiver. Is that what you meant or did you mean actually plug something in and then wire it to that?

So on this carrier, it's customizable. Basically there's 2 bolts that pinch the bar that holds the wheel. The image below explains better than I can.

I would highly highly recommend either welding it or drilling through the bar and using nuts to secure it because I wouldn't trust just friction to hold a 50lb wheel in place.

Congrats on the new rig! Now that I think about it that was my first mod too. It seems like a small thing but I love it! Clean, simple and functional. It’s small details like this that add up in the end. Best of all, they won’t scratch your paint! I think my next mini-mod is going to be dividers for the center console and glove box, I saw some cool ones on Amazon.

Another fun easy one is the Headlight Bulb Conversion (H11 to H9 & 9005 to 9011). This thread explains it but the original photos somehow got deleted in the first post. However they were restored at post 122.

Sorry meant 4 pin. I believe it is the brown wire which is the tail-lights. That should allow for the license plate light to come on when you turn the lights on.

You did a pretty good job with the hi-light mount. Looks like it was designed to be there.

I meant wiring it to the actual plug. I have his swing-out on my Dodge Ram, and I tapped into the license plate light itself. But I have to disconnect it every time I open the swing out. I figured wiring it to an actual plug would be the easiest way to disconnect it.

The case and bullets are relatively inert in terms of temperature, but the chemical properties of the gunpowder and priming mixture can be affected ... Over time, you'll see a drop in performance, perhaps to the point of going click rather than bang. While they may not go off it's not an ideal place to store ammo.

What did you use to mount your Viar pump in that location?

I used 2 license plates that I got from the dealer I used to work at. Put the metal side up, drilled holes to match the places where the threaded studs are and bolted it down there.

We have been socked in with weather from hurricane Barry. I got out at first light and drove up to my fishing camp on a lake west of Baton Rouge to be sure the roof and party barge was ok. Ill have a lot of clean up to do this week sometime but all was well otherwise.

Changed out the low, high and fog lights out for LED's. I have a OME 3 inch lift sitting in the garage I just need to meet some people around here and have them over to help with the lift and bribe them with food and beer.
