What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Finally put on the TRD Pro rear valance I got for Christmas last year...

Was hoping to also vinyl wrap the roof rails, but had so much damn sweat going in my eyes had to call it a day.

Hooked up the rock lights on the Victory4x4 Blitz sliders. Waiting on a couple more parts to come in so I can connect them to the dome lights. But man they’ll sure come in handy spotting those mall parking lot curbs. [emoji23] I need to get this thing off-road.

How do you like them? They are on my short list, and you are the first person I have seen running them.

I posted a short review about them a couple days ago. Same thread, a page or two back. Absolutely love them though. They’re solid, they look good (biased), and if and when I decide to test them, I have no doubt they’ll do the job they’re designed to do. I think they nailed it with these... I’ve always been a function over form guy.... but I think these look pretty damn good, and just testing for any flex, they didn’t budge at all when I jacked vehicle from the underside of them. I wish I would’ve paid to have them powercoated. My one regret.

What bulbs did you do, do you think it made a difference, and how hard to modify the bulbs?

Hella low beam & Phillips high beam. It absolutely made a difference. It only took a few minutes, a snip from tin snip/wire cutter for the metal & plastic tab, & using a box cutter.

added Dobinson c59-505 rear springs

Took out the OEM rear spring & Cornfed 1" spacer, replaced with a lightly used pair of Dobinsons C59-505 springs. Bought used from a very nice member here.
Took about 1.5 hrs after work today, solo mission. The passenger side was pretty stubborn but I got it in there.
I like the stance now, I was a little too level earlier, got some rake back. Did a short shake down test drive, feels good and no odd noises. It will settle a bit more I think.

You are right, they are pretty close. The 255’s are about .25” taller and the 285’s are 6 lbs heavier and 1.25” wider.

I read many good things about the skinnier tires and wanted to see for myself. So far (only a few miles), they are a litter quieter (highway) than the 275’s, otherwise on the road, feel similar.

Happy to update after I get more experience with them.

Na I heard all the same things minus the ".25" taller part. I'll be damned. Prob a bit cheaper too.

Edit: Holy shit like a fair bit cheaper. Sold.

Can you post good side view pics showing the stance? What’s the front suspension setup?

this is kinda dull, but...

i drove it to work.

this is a big deal for me because during the warm weather, i spend 99.785% of my time on my motorcycle...commuting, going to the store, doing anything that contains travel and asphalt. the T4R sits and sits and sits...but today i just needed to rest my bike-riding muscles...and between my old F150 and the Runner, i chose the Runner.

Now i want it to snow :smow:, or to find some nice hilly, bumpy, dirty land to 4WD over...

I reached my limit of tolerance for dealer service and now I’m doing my own routine maintenance. To correct the boogered-up skid plate bolts from dealer oil changes I cleaned up the four frame threads with an 8mm x 1.25 tap, and the four bolts with an 8mm x 1.25 die. With a drop of oil on each they work so smooth now, torqued to 21 ft-lbs.

Took it in for the 5k Toyoyacare maintenance. This dealer is pretty bad. After the appointment, I get home and open the hatch to retrieve something and see the left panel off and the factory lug wrench bundle open on the slide out tray. Of course, the wheel lug lock key is missing. So, I call the dealer and they're 'sorry' they forgot to put everything back. Got it worked out but still, this is the second time in as many visits I got burned by this place and it's really not hard to just put things back when you're done. I'll be very happy to be going to another dealer for the 10k service and beyond.

My OEM remote start for my 2012 arrived. By chance I saw that Amazon had it on sale for $49, which normally it retails around $350. Hard to pass that up. Going to be wiring it in this weekend and will have to have the dealer program it. So roughly $150 all in isn't bad at all (I will not EVER consider an aftermarket remote start, don't try to convince me otherwise)

It's no longer on sale. It must of been a weird fluke. I was going through my saved items and noticed how cheap it was. It was the last one available it said. I'm guessing they meant to discount it by $49, not sell it for that, but they honored it and I received it. OEM Toyota product.

Can you post the link? Can’t find it.

Ha! Welcome to the club! Just be sure to check your 4R before and after each dealer service. If you’re paranoid like me or have experienced lots of dealer mishaps do these before you take it in, depending on your equipment:
Take off any hub caps (so they don’t bash them when re-installing them).
Remove front skid plate (so no stripped bolt threads).
Remove oil drain access cover (so no stripped or lost bolts).
Mark your oil filter body to engine interface with a tiny drop of glue to see if it was broken off when/if changing the filter.
Mark a code on each tire with a sharpie to indicate its position to be sure they were rotated (something like DF, PF, DR, PR).

And after they’re done check all those things and look under the truck, in the cabin, in the trunk, and under the hood for any sloppy cleanup or leftover tools.
I’m sorry to say I’ve experienced all of these things with dealers or mechanics over the years.
