Just took delivery of a 2010 Salsa Red 4R Trail. I was cleaning the car and I noticed the front sway bar was disconnected on the passenger side. My concern is that this may have damaged the KDSS. Trying not to overreacted until i get some more knowledgeable opinions. How concerned should i be?

That truck has definitely been wheeled, hard. Your CV angles look off also, like the front end is sitting too low. Is this a new vehicle to you? If so, I would be quite concerned about it's history.

If the mechanic missed that, I'd look for another mechanic. See if you can get it on a lift and really get a good look at the underside. I hope that's all that's wrong. I don't know anything about the KDSS, I hope someone here more knowledgeable can help you on that.

Whatever "mechanic" looked at it has no business working on anything. At the very least you need new sway bar to control arm bushings. You can likely repair that bent bracket and just replace that missing bolt. Can you post a picture of the truck from the side? I want to see how low the front end sits. You have a negative angle on the front axle shafts which is very unusual and may mean something is very wrong.

Imaginr how I feel after paying someone to do their job. Partially it's bad planning on my part as I only had a few days to schedule the appointment and most places were booked. Doesn"t help that its from a smaller town.

I probably should have flown out there to put eyes on it. All in all it's in decent shape...minus issues mentioned. Photos make it look so much worse with "flash" and it being wet.

I was just shocked that the sway bar was disconnected. The bigger concern atm is the KDSS being ok as the piston could be over extended.

I checked the cv angles on my 2019 tacoma. They are almost flat. The 4R is slightly negative. I'll take side shots tom.

my guess is previous owner removed aftermarket coilovers before trading it in and said F it to reconnecting that pain in the ass sway bar. i don't think that alone is evidence of it being wheeled hard. there is a KDSS indicator light on the dash (I don't know what it actually tells you), but i'd assume if it's not illuminated the system is fine.

just get the bushing and bolt and get it back in there and see how it rides.

I'd like to know more info on the fake alubox. The corrugated stuff is a great idea for my ammo boxes I use.

Looks like they have them back in stock but at a higher price, $165 w/ free shipping. A similar size and dimension Alu-box 42L is $250. So you're really only saving $85 for an inferior chinese made case. At that price it's a little harder to justify but it's still cheaper. I haven't had any complaints about the case so far and it has stood up to my use. I suppose if my rig was going across the Sahara then I'd spend for an Alu-box but these will do for now. The only problem with these cases is that only like size cases stack on top of each other. The pro of the alu-box is that you can stack multiple sizes.

Sort of 4Runner related: have a deposit down on a No Boundaries 16.5 travel trailer that we may be picking up as soon as this weekend. I've never owned a travel trailer before so it's pretty exciting. Should obligate us to get out into the wilderness a bunch more and allow us to camp out on the Olympic Peninsula through Winter which is awesome.

Unfortunately I couldn't get my wife on board with the idea of a custom-built teardrop from High Camp Trailers. She prefers to have an interior place to hang out and take refuge during the rain like a dinette rather than just a bed inside of a trailer. Oh well! Happy wife and all that...

I've never purchased such a terrifyingly awful depreciating asset before, but I suppose you gotta pay to play. Unfortunately we live in an apartment so I've got pay for storing it somewhere, but we are going to give up one of our parking spots at the building to free up the money for it, so not a huge deal.

But yeah a bit stressed about the finances and quality of it. I suppose getting a piece of shit that costs $20k is better than getting a piece of shit that costs $50-100k like some of the bigger-dog trailers that all have the same issues as the cheapo ones. Luckily I'm good about maintenance and am handy enough to hopefully be able to nip anything not covered by the warranty in the bud. A PNW winter shakedown should hopefully reveal any deficiencies so I can make sure all warranty work gets taken care of after a good amount of abuse.

Not bad. Do you mind telling me what options you got for 20K? Or is that equipped standard with no customization? I've seen this model with different door placement and layout. Just curious and interested in something similar. Thx!

As far as I can tell, the options are all relatively the same for the 16.5 across the nation.

You were probably looking at one of the other No Boundaries trailers as they've got little teardrop style ones that are 10 feet, then the 16 footers like mine in three different layouts, then the 19 footers have like five different layouts.

I just wanted something that was better than a tent but my wife wanted something we could hang out inside of when it's raining since we're in the PNW.

I'm assuming it'll be a giant piece of garbage like all mass produced trailers, but the "extravagance" is a little less on this one so maybe less stuff to break. I'm handy enough to not be too worried about it though. We'll put it through its paces this winter so hopefully can get any warranty work out of the way when it pops its ugly head.

Seems like they all have equipment inside...fridge, stove, sinks, lav, etc. I'd like something like this that is near bare bones that I could customize myself and not pay near 20k for some wasted space and equip I don't need. I see some dealers have 2018-19 models for around 16-17k. Still not bad. Everyone has their needs and wants, I think this is definitely better than, for me as well, than a teardrop or box trailer with a RTT for the same price. I get it, I'm not gonna be able to rock crawlin draggin one of these behind or trying to get it to some remote area, but I don't need that. I need something that with be able to be towed down some un-maintained roads or out into national park and set up base camp. And like your wife, I would like to be in a bit more comfort/room. My days of "roughing" it in a tent on the ground are over, haha! I think with something like this, it would be a comfortable all season ADV trailer. I think like most equipment, you take care of it and maintain it, it will last. Store it out of the elements, if you can and like you mentioned, if something does go south, know or learn how to fix it yourself. I'll keep an eye out on them. Maybe a super good deal will come my way

If you didn't want to pay for shipping, you could just drive up there and make a camping trip out of it! Unfortunately for me, it was like $4000 to ship to Seattle which doesn't save me any money and it's too far for me to make a road trip out of it with limited vacation days.

Yeah, I saw his site and am watching some vids on the Utube. Very nice prices for what you get on the earlier 16 series. When I'm ready for mine the 16.8 should be priced where I want it by then. Saving that kind of money I'd take the drive up to take delivery of one...no doubt. And break it in on the way home.
