You're right in saying the engine will only pull what it needs but reducing restriction and allowing the engine to pull what it needs without working as hard will absolutely free up some horsepower. I didn't notice much when I installed by TRD intake but I did notice a good difference when I installed my Borla muffler.

Hit a deer the other night @ 01:30 in the morning going to work. It's the wife's car. Oh man had some explaining to do. Now looking for a Metal Tech bumper as a replacement. I like what I see on Metal Tech's web site. I know of them from owning a 2007 FJ Cruiser TRD SE since 2007. Mark and company at metal tech make some great products. I've wheeled with Mark a couple of times at brown's camp years ago.

Installed mine earlier this year and I can’t say enough good things about it. The lines complement the 4Runner well and has been sturdy off-road.

Installed the Gobi ladder today. A bit of contact with my Front Runner rack but doesn’t effect the hatch opening too much. It’s built well and the dog doesn’t mind it.

If you didn't change the header then you didn't notice anything. That is where the restriction is. Especially the cat.

And the stock intake flows way more air than the engine will ever call for. The filter itself is difference maker here

So, larger diameter intakes and wider exhausts to free up more power is just a myth huh? Definitely not more fuel and oxygen mixing inside the engine.

Toyota claims 5-15whp with supporting mods. I don't see it being far fetched that I'm getting a bit more air being shoved in there are some minor gains on it's own. Not on the bottom end, only on the top, and prob like 5 or less whp. I'm also leaning on faster air velocity, hence my snorkel grate vibrating, and the perceived gains in throttle response.

Mostly just chu chu noises tho which is really why I got it. Thing has slightly more character now.

No air is being shoved on there at all. 0. The engine draws in the air that it needs. It pulls it in. Nothing is forced in. Not unless you have a turbo or supercharger

I don’t know who’s car this is. But this guys crashed into the parked 4Runner and looks like the car took most of the damage. Happened at Costco parking lot in San Jose, CA. If you know who’s truck this is tell them to contact me. I witnessed it happen. Black 4Runner lifted with bronze SCS stealth 6s and extra wheel on the hatch. US NAVY sticker on the back window and lots of patches on the headliner. I had to leave and didn’t get to take any more pics.

Saw this happen yesterday at Cleghorn.....Glad it wasn't me.....

Waiting for some Jeep douche to say “that’s why you need a real off-road capable vehicle so stuff like this doesn’t happen.” Like they said about the 5th gen that rolled at Cleghorn a couple of months back.

I think the Jeep hate is pretty funny to be honest. Reality is, Jeeps are incredible off road and will give any Toyota a run for their money. They are extremely reliable for the first 150K or so but they do not hold up over time like Toyota does. This is speaking for older Jeeps of course, not the junk they put out today.

I have had that borla catback sitting in my cart on amazon (2.5 or 3"?). But, I really have to watch the spending. About to buy a house.

If money was not option I would go full custom exhaust from the block back 2.5 or 3" (I would have to research which would achieve optimal back pressure). Keep the trd intake with the oem filter but dyno tune the engine for normal fuel (as this is an adventure vehicle not a drag car).

Yesterday, I installed new LED headlights from DRZ Off Road. You can find them on the T4R vendor board. I also installed some CalieRaised LED pods in the fog light buckets.

I am pleased with the output from the DRZ high beams. They are super bright. The low beams are just a bit better than stock. In any case, getting rid of the dull halogens is a very good feeling. One drawback is with the DRZ low beam bulbs is the daytime running lights aren’t really an option because they come on at full high beam output. I’m not sure if this is the case with all LED bulbs.

Installing the CaliRaised pods took some work. I had to take off the front bumper cover, which was an adventure. And I had to do some cutting of the stock plastic fog lights bezels, and some trimming of the bumper cover was necessary as well. Cutting on a new 4Runner gives an uneasy feeling, but the end result is very good.

Unboxed the suspension to make sure everything is good to go. ****ing Dobsions box weighed a metric ton. Almost reblew my knees and back moving it around.

Prepped and put an initial coat down on my JBA UCAs. Apartment padio cardboard box paint booth. Neighbor's probably love me.

Going to try and throw it all on the truck this weekend. Also buying a home rn so things are busy. A normal person might wait till closing to do this. But, I'm an idiot with shitty priorities.

I vacuumed up a weeks' worth of beach sand today - we got back on 8/31.

Maybe I'll give it a bucket & brush wash before tonight's poker tournament. I hosed it off top and bottom the day after we returned and got the salt spray off the inside of the windows.

Or maybe I'll just watch a movie and take a nap. I love retirement.
