What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

This is more of a what did I did the last 6 weeks up to and including today. Apologies on that. My Bilstein 5160s leaked and went bad back in April, and that started a complete change to suspension in mid-May.

Thanks to Mike (aka Crikeymike) for taking the time and talking me through my Dobinsons options for my 2016 Trail Premium (w. KDSS). I installed Dobinsons IMS Front Struts and Rear Shocks paired with Dobinsons C59-300/C59-599 springs (2in front and 1in rear lift).

Appreciative of this forum and all the helpful how-to posts and well as the video Mike posted to tackle installing this suspension myself with no prior wrenching experience.

When I went in for alignment, I couldn't get the caster above 3 at a reputable 4x4 shop, so I that led me to replace the UCAs with SPC UCAs a couple weeks later. I thought I was hoping I wouldn't need new UCAs for a 2in lift, but since I did, I just had a shop install for me. In hindsight, I should have just bought UCAs with the suspension and done it all myself. Live and learn!

In taking off the skid plate to install lift, I decided to replace it and purchased and installed RCI aluminum skid plate.

Now I felt I needed a tire upgrade to 285 KO2s (moving from Falken 265 ATW3 which have been fantastic but wanted to try something different), and scored a set of Ray10s from SCS. I went to my favorite 4x4 shop, as I thought I would need a BMC and had time scheduled to do it if needed, but luckily only had some minor rubbing on fender liner and mud flap (easily handled by fender liner mod and heat gun). As of this morning, the look is complete (for now).

1st picture: Lift and UCAs installed on 265s
2nd and 3rd picture: Installed 285s and new wheels

Nice set up. Getting those rims is about as easy as finding gold. They stay sold out it seems.

Installed the hertitage grill and added a 30” light bar

Swapped out the factory alternator for a Mean Green high output alternator and I Just dropped my girl off at YotaMasters in Corona for 4.56 Nitro gears.

Installed the Eagle eyes tail lights after having them sit in the garage for almost 2 weeks. They match up well with the smoked 3rd brake light. Wasn’t really sure about them at first.

First camping trip with diy awning

I just returned from a solo 4 day camping trip to test my new awning. The entire camping set-up needed to be fully removable for my daily driver uses.

See my 2 part attachment to the factory roof rack. I mount the awning on the drivers side because my 4 leg cot 28" x 74" is set up on the passenger side, and I keep the driver side rear seat up for use in camp.

The awning uses 2 roof poles: 1) 36" of PVC 1-1/2" clamped to the factory rack with 2 homemade brackets and 2 hose clamps, 2) 72" of a Lathi cane staff about 1-1/4" dia. This provides 9-1/2 feet of roof mounting for the attachment of the tarp. The tarp covers both doors for rain/sun protection. I found a wonderful sun heat blocking light weight tarp 6' x 9'. It actually provides deep cool (10 to 40 deg.F) shade - Bushpro Silvicool 3 PC800 tarp from Gear up. I tie the tarp to the roof at 4 positions.

I remove the 72" staff for changing campsites, but leave the PVC attached.

I used a couple of old sectional tent poles 8' tall for this test use. But I am planning to fabricate adjustable aluminum poles by modification of painters roller poles. I see the pluses of easily lowering a corner for shade or rain protection.

I have 2 side wall tarps 7' x 9' for privacy that tie to the awning & tent poles if needed.

I can provide more details for my home made roof rack clamps if anyone is interested.

Nice Rack :)

Sherpa nailed it with this rack. I'm crazy happy with quality, looks and ease of installation. It's insane how low profile this sits and how perfectly it follows the lines of the vehicle. Can't wait to get the tent mounted and start putting it to use. If you're on the fence about a roof rack and Sherpa Equipment Co. is one of your choices, you won't be disappointed.

Just placed my order today! With C4 ladder. Hoping the ladder doesn't have issues like paint gouging.

San Joaquin Ridge. I wondered if that trail was still open. I featured it on my old website. Neat place. First time I took that trail was in the 1970s on cross country skis.

Correct! Had a feeling you'd know this area! Love coming up here for the sunset. Has some fun ruts and rocks. On this occasion, there was a wedding going on up by Deadman pass.

well for starters, I bought one... 2020 ORP

I purchased a TRD CAI (already shipped!!) and C4Fab sliders (received a completion date) the night before purchasing the vehicle. I also have LED lights coming in as well.

Nice. Definitely going to be my next rack. Just waiting for the next sale!!!

Added my C4 Lo Pro bumper finally. Definitely the only silver one I've seen without a bull bar or light bar. Maybe the only one?

That looks great! Addresses some issues I have had with my Victory, like the bars not being flush with the side rails requiring me to fabricate to get side mounts to work. And the thicker side rails I am sure flex less. Looks like a better overall fit as well. Very nice

Bought a set of HID low beams from TRS and installed yesterday. Very impressed with the light output - I was (am) still really skeptical of LEDs in our projectors based on this massive thread on TacomaWorld.

The halogen bulbs that come with our 4Rs are pathetically dim....

My only wish was that the leads on the provided harness were a bit longer to get to the passenger side. Majority of the project was planning where to mount everything.
