What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

The Yankum fairlead does not work with the metal sleeve, so it had to go. 3/8" synthetic winch rope usually has breaking strength well north of what the 10k lbs winch can actually pull (50-100% more, depending on the line), so a small reduction in strength at the loop doesn't worry me. The biggest downside to synthetic lines has always been abrasion resistance and not a lack of strength.

And, just to be clear, I'm not shrugging off the dangers of a line breaking while under tension - there are lots of scenarios where a broken line under tension will be catastrophic. Every system is going to be a compromise and safety while winching is a #1 concern.

ill take a look more closely at the rope when the fairlead gets delivered. I got a FID also from back in the day.

What do the clamps do? I have the KDSS control switch and it is fantastic. Highly recommend.

Changed my oil today 9,792 miles. Blew the air filter out. Will get to my zerks next and then check the fluids in the axles and TC.

Oh man...the DRONING of the TRD exhaust...i replaced mine with the regular muffler and kept the side outlet trd pipe....

and as far as "break in"....I dont know why people always talk about that...I can understand break in of an old style glass pack type muffler......but modern mufflers and resonators are a series of chambers and baffles that are all steel and do not "wear" or break in. Its more of you just getting used to the drone than the muffler actually changing tone. Those are my unsolicited thoughts, but if anyone can explain muffler "break in" then I would love to be educated.

one final note....i could see carbon buildup over time changing the tone, but these are modern engines and thats not really a thing.

I found it was even more annoying when I had passengers...it was very stressful driving, when always trying to keep the engine out of the "drone zone".

You can always keep the side outlet....BUT if you go back to the OE regular muffler, the flange pattern is different...one has two bolts and the other three, i forget which...anyways, you have to have one side modded to match the other. But then you lose the ability to resell the TRD as a complete unit.

I found it was even more annoying when I had passengers...it was very stressful driving, when always trying to keep the engine out of the "drone zone".

You can always keep the side outlet....BUT if you go back to the OE regular muffler, the flange pattern is different...one has two bolts and the other three, i forget which...anyways, you have to have one side modded to match the other. But then you lose the ability to resell the TRD as a complete unit.

I'll probably end up selling as is and trying Magnaflow. I just want a little sound but this is just to much at times. About 2K and 3K is where it's loudest.

I went with Borla. Not too loud and no drone, I'm very happy with it.

Question. Looking to do mine soon as well since I'm approaching 50k. Are new crush washers necessary and are they all the same for the diffs, engine oil and t-case? Wondering if buying a 10 pack of the same works or if I need individual ones.

I went this route for crush washers. (I personally have no qualms reusing them a couple times)

The nightshade muffler goes out the back, and it doesnt drone. Not sure if this helps any.

The nightshade muffler is the standard muffler they all (except for the Pro Bro) have with a black tip with I have. I wanted a bit more sound than stock plus the side exit and the black tip.

I switched from the TRD Pro exhaust to the Magnaflow. Still drones a bit, but in my opinion it’s much more tolerable and I like the sound better through the RPM range. (For whatever that’s worth … I know exhaust noise is all personal preference) The “high clearance tip” is more of a gimmick, you could achieve the same with a stock setup by simply chopping off a few feet.

The one annoying thing about the Magnaflow Overland kit is that you have to mess with clamps. I couldn’t get the joints as airtight as I wanted. Tested with a shop vac (on reverse) and some soapy water, no matter how tight I got the clamps (actually snapped one by over-tightening), They all leaked a little. Ended up wrapping each joint in aluminum tape, and covering with a wider style clamp and that did the trick. Welding each joint would be the ideal solution. Might do that anyway now that I know I like the exhaust tone.

When using those clamps, there is a a rubber/tar type material that needs to be put in at the joint. Walker clamps have it. You can also buy a tube of it at Napa etc. Its exhaust black tar material. Nasty crap gets on everything if you accidently step on it, just saying.. ]
But, it seals the exhaust at the clamp joints.

Ya, I had 1.25” spidertrax with the -12 offset I was pushing -44 offset. Too much imho

Finally got around to clay barring the paint. Next is to do a full polish and ceramic coat. She does have a fair bit of trail rash and will continue to get more but I still like the ease of washing with the ceramic.

I also temporarily/permanently fixed the crack in the rear spoiler. Temporary because its not perfect and I would prefer to do it right, but permanent because I probably wont bother with it anymore!
