What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Just got back from a 350 mile camping trip to Mendocino. Truck ran great. Weather was nice and cool on the coast compared to the 110 back home. Averaged about 17.3 mpg over fwy and stop and go traffic.

Got Max washed and ready for the next adventures.

Installed shocks and struts

Installed the 5100’s in front with the stock springs and Rancho RS9000’s on the rear. So far so good despite only rolling on them for 5 miles or so. Def got rid of the nose diving when braking. Kept the fronts at the lowest setting for that stock look. Couldn’t get the duratracs to rub even while going 30 mph through a drainage dip. I might have to bump them up a notch if they settle though. Look pretty close to the fender well.

Installed Apex Overland front recovery points before Moab trip next week. Took them to my local powder coater to get matched as close as I could to the Dobinsons teal springs. Had to use my dremel to knock down the large weld next to the main bolt and paint over it for protection (only had teal on hand) which is the slight overspray on the skid plate.

Finally got around to removing the blower fan. Removed 3 palm nuts! No more rattling or obnoxious noise when I turn on the AC. Once I get my garage back, I will get around to installing RCI skids...maybe one day.:vader:

Changed power steering fluid out. 2019 60k miles. No reason why other than to do it, see how my drill powered transfer tool worked. Worked great..

This is why I have too many tools and have to work outside my shop.

Ordered my Dobinson's lift kit....figuring what tools can I justify buying now.

I also have a noisy fan and a set of skids waiting for some free time

Where did you order your fan from?

After a tiring install on Monday of the bilstein 5100’s in front and leaving the clip at the lowest setting (wanting it as stockish as possible), I had to put 1/4” spacers on the struts (net height +1/2”) to get it more leveled. So out they came again and the spacers worked perfectly. Also installed RCI front skid and talon garage catalytic converter/skid plate so my cats don’t get stolen. Reaimed headlights a bit lower too. Feeling pretty satisfied with it now. :-)

Can you post pics and and how the driving is so far?

What was the truck height at the lowest 5100 setting? Below stock?

Here she sits with front Bilstein 5100’s, clip set to lowest setting, 1/4” Supreme Suspension leveling plates on each strut. I was rubbing at full turn on fast “whoops” without the plates. Front measures 21.0” fender to center of hub. Rear measures 22.25”. Drives great. Much better steering response and stability with the bilsteins.

With the new setup: Front measures 21.0” fender to center of hub. Rear measures 22.25”. Knock 1/2” off the front for the height without the spacers and bilstein height ring set to lowest notch (about 20.5”).

Thnx, I think its funny Toyota knows about the lean, yet, here is the end user fixing little things that make a huge visual difference..

TRD Pro garnish on my limited! Perfect fitment without trimming. Very excited about this mod!

Did an oil change. Changed to aluminum filter holder vice plastic. I drank the cool aid.
Was not an enjoyable first time experience. When I went to take silver cap off of cartridge, I put 3/8 adapter into it and turned it. Wouldnt budge. So, I tried to hold plastic housing, and turn, well, it fell off. The entire thing. I guess it was at very very low torque. It splashed into oil pan, yeah..
Oh well, went and finished. Reset maintenance meter.
Next time, on a lift.
Here is filter at 6000 miles. Dealer did it prior to sale.

Unfortunately I haven't done much recently....

I have a 2017 Limited that we got last fall. It was a little shaky when braking, so I looked at the brakes, and one of the caliper mounting bolts was actually loose (like halfway out). I figured that probably caused some rotor issues, so I decided to replace all the rotors, calipers, & pads.

I got the parts from Rock Auto, and used the following:

Centric front & rear rotors #12044174/12044175
Centric front calipers # 14144305/14144306
Centric rear calipers # 14144587/14144588
And Akebono ASP976 & ASP606A pads

I changed everything up and all seemed fine. Eventually I noticed that the rotors were not wearing evenly. I found that when I would brake, it would pull slightly to the right. I figured maybe everything needed to be greased up, so I went to Napa and got some purple brake grease. I removed the pads, and used a bungy to hold up the caliper on the control arm. I greased everything up and put it back together. Went to press the pedal to test the caliper, and it started leaking fluid at the metal line where the fitting is. I figured maybe I cracked the line when moving the caliper. I ordered new OEM lines and put it in. Same issue. It seems like the line can wiggle a bit in the caliper. I figure because the flare is not against the fitting, fluid is leaking (or weeping) back out of the fitting when pressure is applied.

Hoping someone can help me here, I have it up on a stand and I was hoping to get it finished up.
