What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

I'm Back Baby!

After a stint in a Subaru Outback and hating it, I made it back home.
Got a great deal on this TRD Off-Road Premium...bonus... in Lunar Rock!

Nice install. Was it all plug & play or did you need to cut & wire?

Thanks. Mostly plug & play. The Savvy takes power & ground from the OBD II port, so that's just a plugin. The V1 itself and the concealed display plug right into the Savvy. Then just had to run the wires up the A pillar and headliner (for the V1), and across (and behind) to the center dash for the display. I already had the kill switch in place since I was using it with my Passport.

The only cut/wire part was intercepting the power between the Savvy and the V1 to route to the kill switch. That was a delicate task, dealing with tiny phone wires.

Changed out rear diff fluid. Going to do front diff when I change my oil in the next week or so. Hoping that 10mm hex drain plug doesn’t give me fits.

Easiest install ever!

Pulled my roof basket off my 2019 SR5 Premium. It had slid over and needed re-tightening. Got to thinking that my hard-core off-road days are over and all I really need are my traction mats and a shovel (I have an ax inside) and they'll fit inside, even with gear for a trip. Only used it once when we had 3 people going down to SoCal for 2 weeks and then it was only for my walker (which I don't need anymore). Heading down south in spring and that'll be all I need.

My neighbor helped and he used to build hot-rods "in the day". He said I should get 25 mph more speed and 10 mpg mileage now! (lol)

Well, mine's a 2019 and that fits through 2018; also, I left the factory rails and cross bars.

I upgraded the stock tires to KO2’s today. Less that 150 miles on the stock tires but I wanted something that will handle snow better and KO2’s have worked well for me so far. Stock size for now. Will go to 33’s most likely at some point down the road.

Also realize that especially with the supercharger it will void your warranty on the entire drive train. I really like your enthusiasm but as others have said slow down a bit. I would suggest a lift and tires then live with it for a while to see how you like it and just what you really need to do next. Power is a concern with bigger tires. Maybe consider a Sprint Booster or a tune to see if that gives you enough pick up. Sometimes slow and steady wins the race. Good luck with your new 4Runner, you're gonna love it.

Out of curiosity would adding any of these products or a tune void a warranty?

I'm not sure about a tune. If after the tune something went wrong with the engine or other drive train components I'd have it set back to stock before bringing it in to a dealer. I think the Supercharger would immediately void a drive train warranty. It should only deal with things the supercharger would affect though so if, say, your radio stopped working they could now blame that on a supercharger. Same for a lift and bigger tires. If you broke an axle or probably if an axle seal started leaking, a dealer could and probably would say that the added stress of larger tires caused it. All that said, these vehicles are very stout and last for a very long time. Chances of tires and lift actually causing a problem are pretty small, there are so many out there that are heavily modified and wheeled pretty hard without major breakage. Toyota used to install the Magnusson blower on their vehicles so I think if it is installed by a knowledgeable shop it most likely would be OK as long as you didn't go crazy with the loud pedal.
Also for a little power and decent sound I really like the sound of the Borla cat back system. There are conflicting/mixed views on air intakes. I went simple and installed an AFE dry filter in the stock box. A also removed the larger of the sound baffles in the air tube for a little intake sound. I'm sure it does nothing for power but it's just enough throaty sound. I hope this helps.

Anything that could even remotely be connected to your modification can be denied. I’m a former service manager, so that’s where my knowledge comes from. Something that is completely unrelated cannot be denied warranty coverage. If your rear power window goes out and you’ve modified your engine, they still have to repair your rear power window.

There are some dealerships who may choose to “help out” by either looking the other way, classifying a failure differently, or failing to mention a modification. Typically these are the same dealers that sell their vehicles with dealer installed modifications like lift kits or wheels with the wrong offset.

There have been a few Subaru dealers that I’m aware of who have ignored suspension modifications, and engine tunes because some of the service people on and modify the same vehicles.

I think something like a supercharger would be hard to overlook, so anything engine related would likely be denied. Maybe a good plan for that is to wait until you’re out of warranty.

I sat in the driver's seat crying all by myself thinking there may never be a 6th-gen 4Runner. I think it's over. :pout:

I wouldn't be too sad. The 4Runner is selling over 160,000 units a year, and given the popularity of the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler, Toyota is not going to leave good money on the table. However, it isn't going to be V6 anymore and more likely some sort of twin turbo 4-banger. Toyota has been selling for many years the 2.7L Fortuner in the ME and Asia, so perhaps they may bring that engine to the US.

Installed my bilstein 6112s today. I had originally put in yellow 4600s off a Tacoma with a spacer on top and it gave me exactly 3” which made me nose high even paired with my 1” eibach rear coils. The 6112s at the 6/4 setting gave me 1.5” of lift. A little shy of their 2” estimate but I’ll take it, I’m just happy I got rid of the squat I’ve been rocking for the past month. And the CVS angles look great. I little tilted down but not enough to make the boot flanges touch each other which is what I was hoping for. Oh and I put on some 1.25” spidertrax spacers. Unfortunately the only pic I took was comparing the 4600s to the 6112s. Much beefier and they ride so much better.

When you say “6/4 setting” what do you mean?
