What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Awesome, thanks for the quick and thorough response. I need to get some more armor underneath the truck post-summer, and a rear diff skid/shock skids are high up on the list.

I'm happy with mine. theyre meant to do one thing and do it well. I am not crazy about the ones with the wing on the front to protect the shock shaft, i feel if it bends itll do more harm then good.

i also added shock boots and the kings have been flawless for what we use them for in desert stuff.
I stayed away from the Rago style shock guard with the angled wing for the same reason as Honda250 stated. I added the boots to my rear Radflo shocks as I sometimes hit speeds of 50mph through the desert. The FJToyman skids protect your shock bolts also.
I have a C4 diff skid, which I think is the best one out there, as it has a longer snout to better protect the u-joint and has a e-locker guard for ORP and Pro models with the rear locker. I also heard that it bolts up to the rear diff better than the other ones. Not sure about that.

It would be cheaper to just buy an entire used axle. Doesn’t make sense to pay out of pocket for labor and parts at a dealership for such an expense.

UPDATE:

OK! Got a call that the Blue Beast was ready in Klamath Falls (See my previous post for background). Rented a car (didn't want to be driving 2 cars back!). Call came Wednesday afternoon, we rented and picked up on Thursday AM, took off Friday AM on a MARATHON drive down. Of course, Hwy 97 through the "Rez" had construction, so we detoured via Prosser. Gou there Friday evening. Picked it up on Saturday about 8AM, dropped off the rental and decided we wanted to see some local petroglyphs. Turned out they weren't so local ! They were over the border in Cali at Lava Beds National Monument. We headed on down, saw the petroglyphs, hit the Visitor Center (had a real nice talk with one of the Park Rangers on "pikas" aka "mountain whistlers"). Then decided to head back to Klamath Falls via a bck way. We drove for 2 hours on a mix of single-lane paved roads, cinder roads , mud, pea gravel, and snow. Our GPS simply said "Unknown road". We decided discretion is the better part of valor and (1) the GPS wasn't helping, (2) snow was starting to cover the roadway, (3) no cell or CB reception, (4) car was just out of the shop, and (5) it was getting late!. We doubled back on our tracks. Next day, we visited Lower Klamath Lake Wildlife Refuge and took the 10-mile nature drive. Saw several mule deer (one a buck in velvet), several harriers, including a couple doing their courtship flight, lots of avocets, blackbirds, etc. Got some pictures to follow.

In a nutshell, the "Beast" is driving well, looks like Valvoline is re-imbursing us for the new rear end and axles, weather was great, company was great, pretty good food. Just got back and all is well!

Happy ending! Glad it all worked out in the end.

Added the sky jacker rear sway bar links (SBE702). I have about 1” rear lift and these worked perfect.

You can see the links are exactly 1” longer but could easily be extended to 2” with a shim below the bottom washer.

Maybe it’s the placebo effect but the rear end feels like it’s been freed up. Almost like the sway bar is more willing to flex and let loose. If that makes sense….

Bonus pic of some light testing. I wanted to see the angles of the links and to see if anything was making contact. Didn’t get pics of the links at full flex but everything looked healthy.

That’s great to hear. The shop should also be really reimbursing you for your rental vehicle, your hotel, stay, and a little bit extra for the inconvenience. If they don’t wanna pay it out, you can certainly contact their insurance carrier.

In an ideal world! Car rentals were MUCH less than we were quoted and both got really great mileage. Rooms seem to have broken even with regard to overall expense. The couple of days we changed resulted in lower room rates, also. All total, maybe an additional $1000 to $1200 in expenses.....??

I'd like to get compensated, but I'll be satisfied if they pay for the repairs.

Valvoline called and they are paying for the new diff with labor, etc. Better than nothing!

Got a new OEM windshield on my ORP. Only 14k miles and already needing new stuff. Ergh!

Even though it is OEM, there is no tiny strip at the top of the windshield. It may be that Toyota doesn’t tint aftermarket or ??? May look into front tint now. Especially with summer heat and sun coming up.

Got my ‘18 SR5 serviced. Full service - oil & filter changed, driveshafts greased, the truck inspected (brakes, tires, belts, fluids, etcetera). Small, family owned local shop. 54,437 miles. I ran the truck 11 miles over the 10,000 factory recommended service interval with no ill effects.

ditching the hi-lift and going with the safejack accessories and a block of wood.

Bought only the accessories, tried to modify OEM jack, it did not work. I have to buy a bottle jack now.....oh wells..

cheers!!!

Installed an AFE intake. Was able to make it work with my ARB compressor and Safari snorkel. The coupler for the snorkel used to sit over the lip for the intake box but it manages to sit snug on the inside of the inlet for the AFE box. I was worried if it would fit with the ARB compressor on a Bandi mount but it manages to barely fit.

Just switched as well that’s why my hi lift is for sale. You need 09111-35150. Then drill out the cap

DOOOD YOUR AWESOME, yeah i wasn't paying attention to what generation 4runner jack i needed....thanks broski!!!

That’s why we are here! I would also consider making a platform for it for sand and mud. It fit perfectly in the hi lift base so I just drilled that as well and threw some bolts, threw it in a harbor freight case. Done.

im trying to find a way to bolt the base under/outside of my dual jerry can holder, but it has to be inconspicous, so i got some idea's in my mind.

i have my hilift base around and some wood. I just need to figure which hides better in the truck..lol.

cheers.
