took the third row out of my limited a couple weeks ago. about to finish my DIY wooden platform. looked at the goose gear, but only 1/2" thick plywood and up here in Canada that would cost me nearly $2K with shipping and duty and FX. so decided to try and make my own with 3/4" ply. I've seen a couple DIY goose gear platforms that inspired me

Had this big ass antenna lying around for the past year from alamosa antenna, and decided to kill some time this evening after work by installing it.
For those that are debating the 6.6db vs 3 db GMRS bullbar antenna's from alamosa or Midland's. Just know, the 6.6db antenna is UUUUUUUUUUGGGE.

I like the look of that antenna. how far can you reach with that one? have you tested it. curious to see how it performs given I bet it wants a ground plane. looks like it could tear down a tree limb if it hit one lol
I have two comet antennas a shorter one and a longer one for more distance for my ham radio. I had a larsen antenna but it wanted a ground plane and I was getting poor SWR on UHF. my comets are ground independent but work surprisingly well mounted on the hood corner. I can hit 20-30km out with my shorty with poor line of sight. so for any hams out there looking for an antenna set up the comet SBB5 and SS-680SB work well for VHF and UHF

multiple cylinder misfires
hi guys - I was parked at a train station last night and went to start my vehicle at night to go home. check engine flashing, trac, 4lo flashing. no engine power, stuttering as soon as I started the car
I didn't have a look at it - it's minus 20 out here, but I did bring it to toyota. multiple misfires on multiple cylinders and chewed ignition wiring harness. basically no fuel getting into the engine. cause was likely a rodent at the train station so toyota is replacing the damaged wiring harness
they are a good dealer and I do trust them, the tech is pretty confident the chewed wiring is the cause here. but I am spending $1K to fix this, most of this is labour due to the disassembly required. the coil packs and spark plugs etc. don't appear to show any damage. seems like an open and shut case. could I or the dealer be missing anything but more importantly could there be any damage to the cylinders or engine from not getting enough fuel? total driving distance with the flashing light was maybe 2 miles total so not much and maybe 20mph speed.

No fuel = no ignition = no detonation in those cylinders where wire was cut so it should be fine.
If you were getting fuel but no spark then I would just make sure any fuel in those cylinders is allowed to evaporate out before firing it up again to make sure its not flooded. If this happened would also change oil as unburned fuel getting past piston rings could have contaminated the oil.

that's what I'm thinking. got a bit lucky with this one and there doesn't appear to be anything in the cylinders, or it all did evaporate out if any got in there. thanks

I don't think it can transmit any further than any of the other 6db antenna's out there. You are basically buying it for a certain style (like driving a giant RC car) or you want a really overbuilt antenna that can take hits. I still have the previous NMO mounts on the roof so i can switch between 2db or smaller 6db antenna's if i so choose.
Alamosa does make these antenna for HAM/GMRS/CB so pick your poison...lol.
I won't be able to test this out til the weekend, but if there are any surprises I'll definitely let the forum know.

nah, i just bought a frontrunner flip mount for a cb antenna and drilled it out to fit a NMO mount and mounted it to the Prinsu crossbars. It works well enough.
back on topic:
So on the end of the spring base of the antenna is a exposed cable. So putting a cap on it is not that simple. I know you can probably buy a cap for this but i don't know what this end is called so I bought 2 items off amazon:
1. A load tester and hollowed it out with a drill. This turned out too pretty and more likely to walk away and also worried about the thread seizing so I wanted a more low key option so...
2. stole my grandma's cane ends and drilled the opening out. I think I'll use this since its less likely to walk away on its own.

Looks like a PL239 or PL259 connector. There are caps for both, likely some screw on ones too.

that connector is an SO 239. the SO 239 is the female end where the male PL 259 plugs into. you can get a dust or rain cap for the SO 239. you want something that will fit tight or even screw on like hoppy mentioned

Yeah I ordered a few different caps to try cuz the nomenclature is confusing for male and female connections.
