What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Previous owner thought cutting the grill would look good, but I think it looked terrible. Same goes for the low quality clear corner lights (already foggy with dirt in them). Not the best pictures but found an OEM grill and corners on ebay to toss in. Most people seem to like clears on the boards but I'm a fan of amber corners!

Saw it in person today, so much better! Never really liked satoshi mods.

Looks even cleaner than it did before.

I have been watching this board for some time now. Almost 3 years I guess. After reading up and reading through countless threads about t4rs, I bought one for myself today.

So that's what I did today to my 3rd gen, I bought this one.

I know the running boards are coming off this weekend. I also have a few things to touch up, but for the most part, it's in pretty good condition. I will do a tranny cooler next and then some different tires. This thing has never seen the dirt as far as I can tell. 1998 Limited 4x4 with e-locker and 157k.

I may even start a build thread depending on how crazy I want to go with this thing. Thanks for helping me catch the bug folks:cheers:

The MagCloride was eating the paint off my front bumper so I needed to give it a coat of paint. If I was going to paint it, I first needed to do a little welding. Something that has been in the works since I added the hoop.

SO, we got about 8" of snow here in "The Dirty D" as I like to call it. Dupont, for you simpletons.

I love it. and that pic is awesome! That should be posted somewhere for everyone to see. A 4runner pulling an 18 wheeler with a trailer out.. That would be a good commercial.

I changed the gear oil in my transfer case, and the oil and filter. I attempted to change the oil in the front differential, but I *need* more leverage. Oh, and I also attempted to fix my 4wd disengaging issue by disassembling and cleaning the 4wd button in my Limited. I learned that that bas**** is full of tiny springs and is *not* the culprit.

Tomorrow will be breaker bar and front differential case drain. Maybe an attempt at checking the vacuum tubes, but I have no clue what I'm looking for.

Needless to say...it's been a frustrating car day, but I love her.

installed tranny cooler, painted spoiler thing, tinted 3rd brake light, and painted horns.

For the 3rd brake light, you need to spray a clear coat before using the tint spray, otherwise the paint has a reaction w/ the [plastic and cracks, so this pic is just the clear coat

My Weathertech digital fit liners came in this weekend. I also installed an external tranny cooler and rotated the tires, but no pics.

Last night I confirmed that the rear stuff holding my SC to my intake manifold was indeed stripped.

SO on a moments notice a good friend invited me over to swap in an extra manifold that he had, with gaskets.

We tore out the old manifold, put new gaskets on, cleaned everything up a bit, put a new return line on my FPR (it was cracking, and leaking) and got it going again!

Unfortunately it's too icy out here for me to get on the throttle a bit and see if replacing that hose has fixed my fuel pressure issue...

Cut off my muffler and stuck the SuperTrapp on - 2 1/2" and 18 discs right now

To be honest I'm slow at computers, but a sound clip I'll try to make happen.


This is probably my 10th vehicle I've put a Trapp on, always liked the look and sound plus they really are adjustable. First drive with this thing indicates to me to remove a few discs, it is slower off the line, and the scan gauge is showing a few points higher in the engine load area driving around town. Tonight I'll geter on the highway and see how she reacts.

Removed 3 rattles:

Tape around the rear seat latches.
Felt on the rear cargo bay storage box.
Felt on the righthand side trunk panel.

Now if I could just find that elusive rattle inside the instrument cluster area. I wish I knew how to get in there. :crybaby:

probably one of the easiest mods I've done, but I didn't use the stock e brake. I used the 99 4runner e brake so there wasn't any drilling involved..

Here's what it needs:
Fix P0505 CEL (IAC)
Clean it inside and out
Fix interior light
Fix clock
Replace bumpers
Replace rear hatch or fix dent
repair rocker rust
Replace Fuel filter
Fix heater controls, (fan speed only works on high)
Balance tires (front end vibes between 65 and 75)
fix squeak at start up (has to be either the tension-er or belt

Heres What I Need (future plans):
Tundra Brake upgrade
Cold air intake
Sandblast and paint wheels
mild lift and larger tires to get me started

Let the mods begin and the wallet get lighter!
