What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Not today but yesterday. Had to run down to a quick oil change place for an oil change (not at home, had to run from hurricane Florence). On the way back she started running rough and threw out a cyl 6 misfire along with all the other beautiful dash lights that go along with that mess. Almost had a panic attack worrying about my head gasket. After limping back I started going through all of the usual diagnosis steps and realized that my compression test kit is still back in NC. Discovered a tiny pinhole with scorch marks on the #6 plug boot. So....

She's got brand new NGK plugs and NGK wires. That upgrade was already near the top of the list but it got priority. My fears were erased as she now runs smoothe again!

One thing to note on the NGK wires, they just seem to fit a hell of a lot better than (I'm guessing OEM) but whatever was on there. Plus the blue is a cool bonus!

Rear Bumper

Just started the process ordering a 4XInnovations rear bumper w/swing away.

light cutouts, high lift cutouts and mount, single Jerry can.
Need to carry a 37" tire, and having the sides cut back to accommodate new axle location.
we've been back and forth for awhile now, but I think I've got everything sorted out.

Threw new gaskets and bolts at the crossover pipe flange since it was completely disconnected.
Pulled hitch and skid plates, wire wheeled and got them ready for a fresh coat of paint.
Received new front sway bar bushings in the mail from Energy Suspension, those will go in this afternoon.

Installed a 20mm coil spring isolator on the top of the driver's side coil spring. Driver's side lean is pretty much gone now!

Changed my front diff fluid and installed a new wind deflector. Finally have all the fluids changed after picking the truck up a few weeks back.

Replaced rear springs and shocks, front and rear antiroll bar bushings replaced with polyurethane, replaced front antiroll bar endlinks.

Replaced the stereo with a double din screen. Installed steering wheel controls and wired in a reverse camera. Next is a stealth sub/amp.

Steering rack puked all over my driveway. So since the front end was mostly apart I replace the lower ball joints and tie rods and went ahead and did a small lift. OME 2906 and 2881 springs on bilstein 5100 series shocks. I am very happy with how it sits and how it drives.

I picked up mine today. Finally decided to join the 3rd gen club. I’ve always wanted one back in 2001-2002 when they were new, but couldn’t afford it at the time. This is a 2001 SR5, moonroof, 180k, a few of small, irritating issues, but still roadworthy. This will be an ongoing project, and I look forward to learning from this site and gather information, and I apologize ahead for stupid questions.

Bought a TBU kit!

Yesterday I came across a newly added Tundra at the junkyard, with all the calipers and rotors still in place. While scraping my knuckles getting the calipers off (I only had my wimpy 3/8" ratchet with me at the time), I did some mental math and realized that the junkyard items will cost me close to $150, and will still need rebuilding/machining. So I ditched the whole deal.

So today I ordered the Ebay 199 kit. Between their sale and Ebay's 15% off sale, I got the whole kit with cross drilled and slotted rotors for under $190.

powder coating

I removed the roof rack , gas tank skid plate and the rear air deflector. My powder came in the other day so now its off to be blasted and powdered. i went with a color called black board from prismatic powders. The factory rims are already there along with the three cross bars that sit right on the paint. you can see the damage those do to the paint in the picture. you can also see how dirty it was under the rubber seal on the passenger side.

What I did to my 3rd gen T4R was exchange the 98 center console whit a 99 center console. This swap was made easy by getting the brake handle, console bracket, and the brake cable cup from the 99 as well as the concole. Just had to fit the brake cable cup by trimming the opening the old one was in 1/2 inch on the passenger side. This allowed the 99 brake cable cup to use the original holes. Trim a little plastic on the bottom of the console the rest mounts the same.
