we had similar issue/damage with my boys runner last christmas - we stripped all panels, bumper, innards, etc - got frame straightened and with a lot of this forum and CL and junkyard trips got it back together for a little over $2K (original est was >$5K to have shop do it all)
i don't know if it was the smartest thing - should have junked maybe and just got another one? it was a lot of work!
but at the end of the day for me - they seem to adopt a personality and are part of the family - and all the kids helped - so they learned a lot on the autopsy and re-assembly which has some $$ value - given every kid has a 3rd gen runner.

Took it to the shop to get an estimate on repairs. It’s not looking good unfortunately...

I've been hopong I dont have a bad head gasket. I havent been driving it much lately since I got another 4R and sometimes I get a very rough start for a few seconds if it's been sitting for a few days. And I think I'm losing some coolant but not sure because I replaced it a while ago so might have burped more air out. I also noticed it's been burning a little oil lately. Nothing weird comes out of the exhaust though and it drives great as soon as I give it some gas pedal. Really smooth other than these start ups sometimes.
Hopefully just a fuel issue or the IAC or ECT or something easy. I feel like it happens mostly after I fill up at a certain gas station. Need to pay more attention and figure it out, will do some tests when I have time.

Dont trust ebay for anything other than used parts. I dont even trust Amazon after I got a fake air filter (sold by Amazon itself). I get everything from Mcgeorge or Olathe Toyota.

well, they said they were genuine and they didnt redact the toyota logo. the reviews were positive so i bought them at 179 shipped.
the one thing i am not happy about is i bought them because they were in my state so i could get them very quickly. well, once they shipped, they said it was on the opposite side of the country and it will be here two days after the guaranteed date. this may be a problem in case if i get them and am not satisfied with them i will need to return them and buy at my local dealer. i was also charged sales tax and i am not sure i should have been. i have requested the seller refund my sales tax.
i have now lost those two days and i wont have time to order new ones if i am not satisfied with them (im planning on doing a front end refresh on black friday, sched delivery is next wednesday). so we will see what happens.

Worst case scenario you can always just go to the local dealer, they can usually get ordered parts by next day lunch time, at least the one near me does.

it will be tricky because i was 'guaranteed' to get these on Monday and look at the LBJs on Monday night and decide if i needed to order first thing tuesday AM or go with what i ordered on ebay; that way if i did determine what i bought wasnt genuine, i could order from my local dealer first thing tues AM and have them on Wednesday.
now, not getting them until Wednesday screws everything up if they arent genuine because of thanksgiving and crack friday. the add did say they were 100% genuine and made in japan so i will give them the benefit of the doubt, but its cutting it just a little too close for me. i just hope UPS can get it to me on Wednesday and it will all work out. we will see!

Did a console swap on my 98 - swapped in a mystery console from a 99-02 and was able to re-use my cup holders, lid, etc. So biggest thing was now I have my console cup holders.

Couple long days, but I replaced the timing belt, water pump, crank and cam seals, both idlers, tensioner, and accessory belts...
And while I was in there, I also replaced the valve cover gaskets, spark plug seals, PVC valve/grommet, half moons, cam plugs, plenum gaskets, plugs and plug wires, cleaned the MAF, Throttle Body and IAC. Also checked the valves, have 3 exhaust that are just above the limit for the loose end... decided to just leave them for now.
2 photos just don't do the work justice in terms of time taken. But more photos would be boring...

No I don't like bear meat...greasy and has odd texture. Yes I actually really like Antelope does but not so much bucks. Elk the best with Moose a very close second. All wild game is flat out how you care for it in field and cook it at home. We don't shoot anything that is even at all alert or running. If they are looking at us we pass. We skin, quarter, and have stuffed with ice in minutes. The ice takes up more cooler space than the meat.

Finally ordered some new tires (Goodyear All Terrains - nothing fancy 265/70/16) - cleaning up her OE wheels - shining up nice, weird schmutz like blisters in a few spots. Lots of elbow grease needed to remove all the brake dust burnt in to the matte parts from PO. Hoping to one day get some SCS F5s. Likely after last kid out of house - for now got the originals.

Changed both LBJ with Orem. Went much easier than ones i have done in the past, used a large pitman arm puller to separate the ball joint from the lower control arm. Worked a lot better than a big hammer and fork.
Also ordered set of Bilstien 5100s for the rear.

The other week I put fuel stabiliser in my mom's 4runner that has been parked for about 5 years. They say that the injectors etc. get gummed up with old gas and that it won't last for more than a year. I started it up a few times a year to keep it fresh but the gas in there was at least 2 years old, maybe 3, without any stabiliser. The tank was almost empty (on purpose so that fresh fuel would dilute the old gas). This isn't good for moisture corrosion in the tank as there is more air in there to drop out water.
Well, it fired right up like it had run the day before. No problem. I added a few gallons of stabilised gas for winter and let it run for 15 minutes. Hoping to get this one up and running next year. Need new ball joints, shocks, windshield, swapped rear end, and a few other things to make it roadworthy.

Yeah me too. When you factor in the cost and my time it was definitely not worth rebuilding the one I picked up. But it was a good learning experience and it's starting to become a nice vehicle bit by bit. It's now part of my family.

Those wheels look brand new! Were they in really good shape to start? How'd you clean them or did you repaint them? My 6 spokes are looking rough. I've tried aluminum wheel cleaner and IronX without much satisfaction other than getting rid of brake dust.
I just picked up some 5 stars but it's going to be a while until I get them painted or powdercoated. I'd love to have my current wheels looking better until then.
