Thanks habanero! I am glad I am in one piece too. LOL Though I am biased. To say that I am super bummed about my 4runner would be an understatement. I had just recently reached the, "Hey.. I think I am done with big stuff, now just to fine tune and enjoy." portion of my build. I as actually considering buying my first set of offroad lights. hahaha..
So yes, the future. Not sure how everything will sort out with the insurance, but the easiest path to me seems to be to find another 3rd gen, and swap as many items over as I can. This is probably the easiest route. Others have even suggested trying to do a body swap. That seems like an extreme option and would require my frame to still be straight.
I am trying to keep an open mind and could also consider a Taco 1st or 3rd gen(probably not 3rd $$). Or if the perfect LC 80 (1995-1997) popped up, I would be tempted.
But starting over is mentally exhausting.

Finally figured out how to move the subwoofer that came with my 4Runner so it wasn't sitting right in the middle of the cargo area. SO MUCH SPACE! Can't wait to take the dogs out to the lake now

There are 8,850 search results from Just the 3rd gen section of this forum about tire sizes and lifts. Glancing through the first few pages, it looks like a suspension lift offers Zero additional tire size (32" with no rubbing, 33" if you hammer the pinch welds and trim some of the inner fender). Add a 2" bodylift to that trimming and you can run 35's. Seems like 37's are only for fully custom rigs, and make the truck slower than your average VW bus.

lol no chance you're fitting 37's chief....
33's max with hammering the pinch weld. Look at a 2" body lift to fit 35's.
37's require cutting the front and rear fenders significantly...

New shoes. Swapped my Cooper A/TWs for Firestone Destination X/Ts. Went from P265/70/17 to LT255/75/17 C load rated. Pic shows each as mounted on my SCS Stealth 6 17x8.5 wheels. Merely a 3lb increase per corner from the 35k mile Coopers to the LT Firestones. Very pleased.

34,117 over 4 years, 2 mos. I didn't measure tread depth, probably could have run them a bit longer; but there were a number of factors leading to replacement. They had developed somewhat significant oxidation cracking. Hate to admit that I never rotated them (I'll do better with these I promise) and an alignment toe issue (resolved yesterday) had caused irregular shoulder wear on the left front. Then of course, I'm in the Northeast and snow is coming, actually it's here.
I also wanted to move toward the pizza cutter camp. Though I'd planned on 33's (255/80/17), tire weights of 51+ lbs & E rating ultimately deterred me. I settled for true 32s (x10) with the 255/75s and I'm happy I did.

cracking in 4 years? are you sure the tires werent old? or were you just hard on them?

new LBJs :biggrin1:, thanks to the encouragement offered in [MENTION=120071]mtbtim[/MENTION]'s great tutorial. it was surprisingly easy, and took a couple hours including a short break after finishing one side. the old ones weren't completely borked, but they were noticeably looser than the new ones.

Not to the knowledge of this forum. There was an attempt to use just the ball joint from a Land Cruiser, but it didn't work correctly.
At $200 per set and only Extreme crawlers needing them more frequently than 100k miles, it's not a huge deal for now. Once the Toyota parts dry up though... Mall Crawlers can realistically go 200k trouble-free miles (and more, but that's my personal limit for the risks associated).
i'm guessing this pair was original, and thus it went 192k before i called an end to the fun. impossible to say if they were factory-original but they are OEM. thinking i'll keep them for a bit, just in case. i also went with new bolts. the uppers still are tight, so i'll hold off on those for warmer weather.

Towed the 3rd gen to the shop today after the fiance hit a patch of black ice and ditched it. She missed the cliff wall and a huge drop off of about 500 feet. She took it into the shallow ditch but still messed up the front end. Tie rods etc... Bright side is that she wasn't hurt and there was NO body damage at all and I now got to buy some brand new tires after it's fixed up. Went with Goodyear Duratracs with studs for winter 4running.
:jaw: yikes! glad she's ok. also, good opportunity as you took advantage of, to do some upgrades.
