What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I was nice to mine today.....
New Plugs and wires, Transmission and Power Steering flushes, new Timing Belt, Water Pump, Thermostat and Drive belts. Also, lubed all the drive shaft fittings.

Next is repack the front bearings, front /rear differential fluids and maybe steering bushings.

I saved my drive shaft by greasing the zerks
Gave it a sea foam treatment
Installed new pads and rotors in preparation for the 35's
Painted the drums and front center hub cap
Test fit the wheels
Painted the cb mount, installed it, and the 4' fire stick

Gave my wife a whole new truck by retrofitting an '02 center console.
Rear window switch is on the inside wall of the deep pocket by the ebrake.
Black plastic resprayed in rustoleum satin since it was one scratched up mofo.
Still rockin the torn leather work-around with the donor cloth bottom.

Also replaced the passengers side rear seatbelt as the original return spring got so weak it quit retracting.

Nice work gents! I was a little lazier....just cleaned my MAF and recharged my K&N Air Filter. Next up.....figure out how to clean the AIC, find my faulty Refurbed Fuel Injector(s), and replace my valve cover gaskets.

I did the minute mod expecting the belt to completely retract. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case; it's a little better, but I still have to "help" the belt the last foot or so. When it gets annoying enough again, I'll start searching for replacements.

Hey sportscarfan, how hard was it replacing the rear seatbelt? Mine also doesn't retract.

It's really easy - I had the old one in & out 3x. I tried the "minute mod", but if the spring is weak, that will only buy a few weeks if the seatbelt is used frequently.

  • Remove the sill trim (x2 phillips screws)
  • Pull the seat bottom up & fold the seat back down
  • Pull off the trim panel that the seat back latches into
  • Pull back the interior quarter panel trim far enough to get to the retractor
  • There are x3 M10 bolts to remove (use 14mm socket; I hate it when folks call out metric fasteners by their head size...it's the THREAD DIAMETER x pitch, hello!)

Everybody has their own pet peeves. No need to impose your anal retentiveness on to others. If I need a 14 mm socket, then to me, its a 14 mm bolt. And then there's others that refer to it as a thingy. To much effort to "hate it when..."

I didnt do it today or even yesterday for that matter (since we are only a few hours into our new day) but on Tuesday, I installed my TRD supercharger. Then on Wednesday, I pulled it back off and did what 4-Ripcord did and put it back on (I have the 1st gen grey so it has to come off)

The install on Tuesday took me roughly 3.5 hours, and swapping the coupler on Wednesday took roughly 1 hour not including set time for the gasket maker to set. Once you know how to do it, its really easy to pull the supercharger off and put it back on. The hardest part is that back nut. Luckily I have small enough hands that I can wiggle my hand behind and start it with my fingers.

Power steering flush, which was good as it appeared to have PS fluid and not Dextron III in the system. Starting looking at what's needed to install my boost and EGT gauges.

Koyo A1998 install, complete transmission and coolant flush, oil change, plus I replaced that little deedly-bop in the back that allows the wiper to rest on the plastic rest when it's not being used.

On a side note - I was present to see the install. I've not looked @ the inside of the radiator or cut it open, but there was NO sign of pink milkshake, and there were almost no metal shavings in the transmission attached to the magnets. And after 6K miles, the oil was still golden brown with no burning.

Looks like the former owners weren't kidding when they said they took REAL good care of this thing. :)

Installed a new CURT Class 3 hitch. I was going to send my old one to be powdercoated along with the new rear bumper, but it would have needed to be sandblasted and the added expense didn't make it worth while. New one was $151 delivered and blasting/coating the old one would have been almost $100.
