What did you do to your 3rd gen today?

Started "Project 6Runner".

Finished the rear seat belt install. Now I need to get seat brackets made and the seat installed.

Does your insurance company cover people who are sitting in the added seat?

That is a good question that I will be addressing soon. I'm thinking about looking into getting it NHTSA certified (if that's even possible).

Also it looks like you are going forward facing? Any particular reason?

I am going forward facing for a few reasons. Aesthetics and safety being the most important. I want the install to be as "factory looking" and as safe as possible when I am finished. I will be using a front seat from a 2nd gen 4runner. In my opinion it wouldn't look good to have a bucket seat rear facing. And the one child that will be sitting back there wouldn't be real happy with "being alone".

I was able to properly install the 3 point seat belt by using brackets from a place called Juliano's. They specialize in aftermarket and retro-fit seat belt supplies. The seat belt is from a 3rd gen T4R's rear driver side. (Thanks, [MENTION=97568]T3tech[/MENTION])

Because I'm using a bucket seat, we can just pop the rear hatch and let them crawl in that way. Or, the kids are nimble enough that they can hop over the middle row.

Thanks. I looked into the "little passenger" seats and even Jeep Fold and Tumble benches. I didn't like the looks of either one in the 4Runner. Looked a little too "thrown in" to me (no offense to those who might have these). Plus, all I need is room for one more. And it still leaves me with some cargo space for my gear box. (Installed tie downs to hold that in place too.)

Today we took it for a relaxing drive in the country (it likes that sort of thing).

We used it to give the wife some exercise.

And we discovered exactly where the trail ends (at least for those without chain saws).

Mark Twain National Forest southwest of Garrison, MO (about 20 minutes from home). I'm running all the forest roads (and about every other dirt road on the map, and off) and documenting what I find (mostly trees and rocks, though I have found hog traps, an abandoned F350 sunk to the axles in mud, and occassionally signs of a mobile meth lab :wow.

Vsc trac disable installed. Anytime foglights done. Repainted spoiler and pulled roofrack off to winterize it.

bed lined bumper and mud flaps

Just got finished installing my rear bumper and mudflaps after bed lining them all. I also trimmed off the lower rubber part of the mudflaps. Some before and after pics... there was already a small dent in the driver's side of the bumper, i think it helps hide it.
only good before pics, you can see the ugly long mudflaps and the drivers side one peeling from being spray painted over what looked like the desert dune color

I took everything apart, sanded the flaps by hand and the 3 bumper pieces with an orbital sander and 60 grit. I used dupli-color bed armor in an aerosol and I feel it turned out really well, used the whole can and I really like the texture it produces. Seems pretty tough so far, but only time will tell. Either way, I can always still touch up with a spray can. It's dirty from my sweaty, dirty hands installing it... I need to wash my truck anyway.

I plan on doing my front bumper and something with the flares and cladding due to the fading / oxidizing.

Replaced broken end links and sway bar bushings with Mevotech end links and Prothane Bushings.

Did a little urban wheeling to see how much fender trimming I needed.

I trimmed the fender flare that is attached to the front bumper down and replaced the mudflap bolts with low profile panhead bolts.

Finally got around to installing the Infiniti QX4 heat seat elements and wired up the switches. Took forever, the wiring diagram was wrong, so it was a bunch of trial and error. I also had to weld one new seat frame nut to the body, since the original tac welds didn't hold when re-tightening the bold. I also somehow managed to strip the threads on another bolt, and lose one seat rail plastic end cover, so I ran to Toyota and ordered them up. That's the last time I do something that involved on Friday 13th.

Ordered an Addicted Offroad front bumper to replace the ARB I sold to a friend.

Ordered my lift today! 5100's+Eibach's for the front, Extended 5100's+ Superflex coils for the rear.. And with no weight BRING ON THE RAKE!!! ohh and i ordered my B+M transmission cooler as well as plugs and wires. Im way to excited and will be waiting on Brown Santa to come!
