Took it out on the beach for some fishing all weekend at the OBX. Picked up one of the Smittybilt awnings. It was exactly what I was looking for!

Also picked up a hi lift jack. Now I just need some sliders for the additional jack points.

One of my true loves is the Outer Banks. Where did you go fishing? I always make it down to Hatteras and Ocracoke Island every year. I'm heading down for a week in April, cant wait to drive on the beach

That's a strangely optioned 4Runner. Roof rack with no rear wind deflector, and an aftermarket hitch. I'd be willing to place a rather small bet that the rear end of that thing was at one time obliterated and rebuilt.

Does it have VIN stickers on the rear hatch?

It looks to me like the plastic above the front bumper is painted also--look at other 1999 highlanders and you'll see just black plastic. Just some paint customization?

It's a cooler and fishing rod rack.

Installed the warn front hitch receiver. You don't end up kicking sand into your reels like you would if it was installed on the back.

That was Cape Point, just south of Hatteras lighthouse. We usually go for two weeks in the Fall (red drum season), but we went down for a long weekend. It's nice having family with a house down there

The one sticker I have on the runner is my Frank and Fran's sticker. Love the local tackle shops out there.

Driving south on I-5, I begin to hear this loud noise. It has been crazy town here lately for weather, so at first I thought it was the wind. I shut off the stereo and realized it was pretty loud, and not the wind. It sounded like deep water spray hitting the running boards, but I no longer have running boards, and it wasn't raining.

Then I realized that it must be the fender liner. After putting my SW front bumper on, there was some liner overhang that got temporarily stowed with some plastic ties. They must have come undone. Super. There was just one bolt holding it in place when I got home.

Now I have to source a new one. Camelback has them for $82. I might just find a used one somewhere.

The rack looks really good!

I'm not saying the front crossbar is on backwards but both of my main crossbars face the same direction as your rear crossbar. I only noticed because I just removed, painted and reinstalled my rack a couple days ago and was very aware of how it was previously put together so I'd get it back the same way. I also looked at quite a few pics of 3rd gen stock racks before posting this.

If the placement was intentional...roll with it. Looks good either way.

Update:

I flipped it around and the wind noise was still there. Backed it up about 3" and the wind noise went away.

Update:

I flipped it around and the wind noise was still there. Backed it up about 3" and the wind noise went away.

Took advantage of the lull in weather to change my plugs and wires. Wasn't stoked to pull out incorrect plugs (just bought the Runner) but it was nice knowing she'd run even better after the correct ones went it. And yes, drivers side firewall plug is not a picnic. Not the plug itself but reattaching the plug-wire boot. A great learning experience all the same.

Using a 2ft long 3/8ths extension, I was able to do all 6 plugs and wires done in 30 minutes. It was my first time on this vehicle, and it was super easy to get to the driver's side rear plug with that thing.

Tracked down and disconnected my auto antenna, it kept making a noise when I started the 4Runner. And it's broke off though. Any thoughts on the best replace antenna?

Are those lower ball joints? Keep a very close eye on non-OEM LBJ's. It seems alot of them fail prematurely... I would inspect them every 10k-20k just to be safe.
