Time to go wheeling!

My 96 SR5 is a manual 5 speed transmission. My rubber gear shifter has become smooth and sometimes slippery. I like the leather wrapped ones on the 98 99 and 2000 SR5s but the Stealership wants $160! So I cleaned it with some alcohol and scuffed it up with some sandpaper. That will work for now. I'll wait until the shifter comes along...

Scuffed the chrome off front bumper, got rest of the body ready. Took all I can off and in the paint shop for dark blue # 50413

Wow. Well HungryEddy and I put my Ultimate Lift in yesterday, but when we went to take off the skid plates to put the diff drop in, two of the front bolts were badly rounded from a previous IDIOT who worked on my truck. So we called it a day, and when I got home today I took the angle grinder to them. After mangling my front skid plate a bit, I took the heads off the bolts and drilled into them as much as I could with a really under-powered drill. Then I took the pry bar to them and tried to break what was left so I could get the skid plate off. Got the first one, then I spent a while longer on the second one.

After grinding, prying, pounding, drilling, and repeating, I went to pry again but went a little too far and put a hole in my radiator !!!!!!!! :redbrick:

Before I knew it coolant was going everywhere, so I quickly put some buckets/pans to catch as much as possible. Then I still had to pry, drill, and grind for a while after all the coolant had leaked onto me, the concrete, and buckets.

FINALLY, the damn thing came loose. By that time, it was too dark to do the diff drop install. But now I need to replace the radiator.

The only thing that sucks is it's a busy week at work, and I'm trying to take the runner to Breckenridge friday night for the weekend. So I'm hoping to swing by (in the GF's car) and pick up a radiator from Autozone, and put it in Wednesday after work.

And if I have time, put the diff drop in. Then drop my truck off Thursday morning to get aligned. Then she'll be ready for the trip down to Breck.

Hopefully it all works like clockwork.

Did this fix your stiff steering issue?

that it did. this is the first thing i have had to "fix" in over a year and a half and 30+k miles sense ive owned it... nothing has gone out sense i bought untill this, and it was the original pump. it went out when i got stuck in the snow last thursday, and had that whole ordeal...

I'm laughing at you a little bit, but it's because ALL of my projects go about like this. And well, all you can do is laugh right? (and cuss)
Hope it all works out for you buddy.

gotta love it right? I break more things moding then I do driving. I forget that some of this stuff will break eventually some times.

Added a terminal block behind the drivers side left foot kickpanel:

The power is coming to the terminal block through a 12 gauge wire with a 30 amp fuse.
The top yellow wire (behind the red #18 gauge jumpers) is the power source.
The bottom three yellow #14 gauge wires will be going to two additional 12 volt power outlets and the autometer transmission temp gauge.
To keep the terminal block in place, was tricky enough. It is held in place with one screw and one washer on the front and a 10mm nut and washer on the back. There was a hole made there during the manufacturing process and just used that for mounting the block. I tightened it down enough so it won't move, but I am considering adding a second screw just in cast. Getting the washer and nut in just the right place and holding it there was very tricky.

The red fuse holder (via a #14 gauge wire) will fill the 4 amp requirements for the autometer and the other two have a 15 amp fuse each and will go to the 12 volt power outlets I am adding inside my '97 'Runner.....somewhere.

The red connector hanging from the left of the terminal block is already hooked up for my Cobra 19 plus cb. I grounded the cb negative cable above the positive jumper (under the screw that retains the kick panel in place.)

I couldn't figure out how else to make the positive jump to the other terminals but the way I did it. If there are better solutions, please chime in.

That's it for now.

Heh thanks. I just got one ordered from Autozone, my GF'll pick it up for me while I put the diff drop in.

Ya when it rains, it pours ...... coolant... everywhere ...

:smashputer:

Drove it for the first time since New Years Day. Getting an alignment tomorrow afternoon, then it's back to daily driver status.

@ aeroneer1, the diff drop is cake once the skids are off. At least with power tools it is. :)
