What advantages/disadvantages do manual locking hubs have?

Advantage of locking hub that is off top of my head:
-Less wear on CV axle and boots specialy if lifted
-Less wear on front diff
-Less rolling resistance (= little better MPG)
-If you front axle breaks can simply drive home with it on free mode

Disadvantage:
-$$$$
-One more device to maintain

Squeezed 191 miles on this tank. Almost 200!

TRDteen I hear you, I know leaving my etc on kills mileage. I've been messing around with settings since I got a my ultragauge to see what affects mileage. I'll run something for a couple tanks to see what it averages. But with front and rear bumpers, sliders, 285's, roof rack, led bar, rooftop tent, awning, I was pushing low 13's mostly around town driving. I'm 15 minutes north of you. So you should be getting better. I just sold the rack and everything on it and drove out to Redlands yesterday, and averaged 16.9. I figure it probably gets at least a mpg better then that since my speedo is off.

How did you do that? I think I want a body lift but I have the 4xinnovations bumper that leaves the gap. Do you mind telling how you fixed the gap problem ? Thanks

Basically I was messing around with the parts I had laying around and picked up a few nuts & bolts from Home Depot. I would like to preface this by saying the install is not complete, I am flying by the seat of my pants and I am not responsible for any crazy ideas someone might take away from this.

The 4Crawler BL comes with a bolt on bracket to lift the stock bumper up 1” and I would imagine the others do to, which is what I am currently using. Obviously the new plate bumper is much heavier and I will need to figure out a way to add strength. Additionally, I now have two failure points by adding a bolt on bumper to a bolt on bracket. Surprisingly it feels really solid and I am confident it will hold up to daily driving while I work out all the details. I plan to beef up the bracket or have a new one made, weld it directly to the frame and leave the top portion as a bolt on so I still have the option to remove the bumper if I ever need to repaint or access the winch.

I also notched out a part of the skid plate mount with a grinder to fit the plate bumper over the preexisting mounting points instead of under. There are 5 holes for the skid plate that I plan to use to attach the bottom portion of the new bumper with nuts, washers and bolts. I might have the skid mount boxed in as well for additional strength.

As Bandit observed it is quite snug at the moment, which does not leave much room for flexing. If I make or have a new bracket made I will take this into consideration.

I recall Ripcord addressed an issue with the bumper mounts tweaking and plan to revisit his build thread to see how he added more support. He doesn’t have a body lift but it is still good tribal knowledge to take into consideration.

I'll try to add more pictures to my personal album.

Electrical supply store is closed on the weekend, so I spent some more time de-skunging the interior.

Pulled apart the handbrake assembly all the way down.

More leavings from the PO. That part is at the bottom, and you might notice it has no ability to drain. If you ever spill anything on your center console, it has no choice but to pool there and corrode. Cleaned off the gunk and rust, and gave it a rustoleum coat as a hedge, but I'm going to figure out how to make a boot for the handbrake to keep crap out of there.

IMO that may be the eventual cause to the pink milkshake syndrome. I have 3 buds with 4Runner's and the only one who's had rad issues is the buddy who adds water to the coolant res. or rad straight from the tap. The rest of us have never used anything but that pre-mixed Prestone stuff . This is a observation of about 10 years of ownership between all of us . Possible ?

So, you don't use the red toyota coolant? I do and when I am done flushing my rad., I'll use distilled and red toyota coolant.

No idea. I'm not super hard on the accelerator, and always cruise in to red lights. I live in an area with A LOT of hills. Hills everywhere, so that may contribute to the poor mileage.

How many gallons does it take to fill up? You may have a bad gauge sender. I do. Wind, as well as those hills, are bad for MPGs.

Only 191 miles??? wow that means you are getting around 13 mpg 0_0"
The worst I got on my 4Runner was 16 mpg, and that was during off roading.
Normally I get around 19.5mpg

I have no clue why i get such sh*tty millage. I was averaging about 14.3 MPG's these past 2 months. Fill up every 5-7 days.

Installed my CB and Firestick. Made a HomeDepot special mount until ODL gets theirs in. Mount seems to be pretty rigid just need to get the firestick tuned.

Installed re-manned OEM CV axles with long travel inner boots from CVJ Axles, Inc. in Denver. I'm pretty happy with what they sent me. I've read some reviews and threads about the company and most were positive. I ordered mine last Mon and received on Thurs. Perfect condition. Boots and seals were great, new dust shields and snap ring. Thumbs up thus far -

ive been getting the same mileage even after a tune up and changing the rear O2 sensor. I may need to change the front O2. may help you out to do the same

Mind me asking what they cost you?

Started my summer building spree. Replaced rack bushing but left rack hanging cause im gonna do the lower control arms tomorrow...if i can get the uppers done. Getting that dang upper ball joint sucks, but they will be replaced with the light racing uca! pics tomorrow.

Replaced my IAC valve with a new one from eBay ($75, still in the bag, hah!), and my warm idle is down from 2000 to 700. Worked like a hot damn! Engine just purrs now, couldn't be happier.

(Still going to have a look for vacuum leaks, cause what the hell.)

Drilled a fat 3/4" hole in the roof for my 2-meter ham radio antenna. I got fed up with listening to hill-billies three states away clog the airwaves with garbage, so I removed everything CB related from my truck.

Interior panels removed to facilitate coax routing.

Finished product.

Now I can remove that second magnet mount from my roof.
