What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Had the U-joints replaced and the driveshaft balanced. Turns out the PO had replaced the U-joints with cheap, sloppy ones and between those and an out-of balance driveshaft there was enough shake to cause the 60-70 MPH drumming noise that was making me crazy.

Shout out to Driveline Shop of Orange County! Those guys really know their stuff and the price was very reasonable. :thumb3:

Just wondering if they took the driveshaft off the truck? I think mine is warped and the vibration is slight, but noticeable at speed. A new driveshaft is $350, was it less?

Installed new KYB struts/coils front and KYB shocks/springs in the rear yesterday. The ride is improved over the 14 year stock set up. Also replaced the A/F sensor (the one before the Cats) and it cleared my CEL. First time it's been off since I owned it. I'm pretty happy with myself.

Washed and waxed it also.

what coils did you use, and did you replace the upper strut mount. I rarely see people listing that as part of their shock replacements, not sure how long they last on these cars. Volvos and BMW seem to go at about 200k

Went to the local salvage yard and bought an OEM 5 star wheel to keep as a spare. Only cost $50 and it's in pretty good shape.

Where is this salvage yard (I'm also in NJ)? I'm looking for an alloy wheel to replace my rusty steel spare.

I used an OEM replacement from MOOG, they worked great. I didn't replace the upper strut mount, just the strut and coil. I'm happy with the result.

Runnin boards off, blacked out the flares, cladding, and grille.

What did you use to black out the flares? Auto paint or something else, it looks great and I'm thinking of doing that to mine.

Painted grille and front bumper. Sanded, primed and bed liner spray. Debating doing the scoop on my sport hood but can't get it off cause the studs are stripped.

Do you have any pics of it complete and back on the 4Runner? Did you follow the directions on the forum to do it?

I was thinking about doing the running board delete, but... I sucked it up and mowed the dusty lawn today. That, and I really, really want to drive down to The Red Hot in Tacoma to order up some Coney Island hot dogs, minus yellow mustard, add cream cheese!! Oh Boy!! Man, that chilly of theirs is good.

If you live in the area, stop by and try some of their dogs! They are delicious and they have plenty in the way of beer selection for everyone. I don't work there, I am just addicted.

Did a bunch of things:

Redid my instrument panel LEDs with a light strip. MUCH better, when I eventually start a build thread I'll post pictures. Repainted my instrument panels while I was at it, used a flat black to reduce glare from the new lights during night driving.

Wired in a rear gate switch. Followed this thread. Works like a charm, piece of cake. Everyone should do this. Just waiting for the switch housing to arrive (from China) to finish the install.

And put down a bunch of money on something fun, but it'll be a while before I get to post about that...

cleaned my blower fan

been noticing sort of a funky smell coming from my A/C when I turn it on. I knew what it was but didn't feel like fixing it. Anyways I had enough of my car smelling like wet dog so I decided I would finally clean my blower fan. Doesn't look like it had ever been cleaned before. Cleaned it as best I could... but now I realize a tooth brush would have probably worked amazingly.

Finally cleaned up the sun-visors I pulled out of a 2000 junkyard runner. Had blood or grape juice on them from whatever accident the truck was in.

Liberal amounts of Oxy-Clean, hot water and brushing took care of it nicely.

Installed them and I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.




Also got around to fixing the crappy radio reception I had ever since I replaced my stereo with an aftermarket unit. I didn't know at the time I installed it—that 4runners have two radio antennas, the regular one and the rear window one. Had to buy a couple adapters to unify the two cables so I could plug them into the sole antennae slot on the radio.

Much better reception now!

I have that same, not so fresh smell, with my AC. Any tips besides using a toothbrush. Is there much disassembly involved? I saw a youtube video of someone taking off the passenger sided door trim as well as the trim between the front of the door and the firewall. Would you say that is accurate?

like this idea, on my list of things to do, only thing I see is bumping it with stuff in the back while driving and have the window go up or down when not wanted

mine is hooked to just the front antenna and I get good reception, however, that said, I am ordering the adapters from amazon so I can wire in the window antenna

Finally did my post camping routine. I got back from Moab on the 1st but I've been very busy with work / personal commitments.

* Washed the truck , especially focusing on the 10,000+ bugs stuck to it.
* Cleaned the interior out, thoroughly wiping everything down
* Removed the rear cargo carpet mat and cleaned it off with a full scrub brush wash
* Fixed one of my headlights that had become misaligned
* Put all the camping gear away amd sorting then storing it
* Watched Game of Thrones finalle (holy sh$t ... So good) although not 4Runner related.
