What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Went wheeling in my Dad's jeep with him on Father's day got high centered on a rock in 1.5 feet of wet clay and mud. Couldn't get the jack to lift us off and didn't have the winch on a cradle with us. So since it was Father's day I had to walk 4 miles to go get the 4runner and go down the trail to yank the jeep out.

Got bored so put some LED's in. I need to figure out the green a/c switch but otherwise everything else is blue while driving.

they look good.... real good.... I was thinking of doing the same thing... but I think I want a white light.
Where did you get the kit? was it a hard install?

I wanted it high enough to clear a sleeping platform, and easy to reach from either side, but I wouldn't put it right there again. Very snug fit on the backside, had to modify the switch and mounting to make it fit.

its not so much what I did today, but what someone else did today

so what did I do to it today ? what I did was park it at Walmart

what some yahoo did was open a door into it and put a new scratch in it , small but I saw it right off and it "hurt" my feelings and hurt my "gray pearl"

Even though she's a100 years old.. I still try and treat her like it's that day in 1997 when I drove her off the lot.

Meaning I still park far away from other people (I only stopped parking at an angle about 8 years ago- still far away) so if anyone scratches or keys my truck... it's not because I parked to close. They have to work for it.

if you park on an angle in the middle of the lot or close to the store... you are on your own.

It IS NY.. people here don't need a reason to be an A$$HOLE. they could have a bad day and take it out on you. I was out in a club years ago... I saw a drunk guy rip the rear window wiper off of another SUV.. He was totally drunk and complaining about some woman....


It was then I realized that some people really suck.

Nice!, I bought a $12 switch for this but I think its to thick. I was shocked by the little space behind the panel, I might try and find those wires where they come into the cab above the roof liner. then just put the switch on a side panel.



Also got my window visors today, trying to decide if I should get it tinted before I install them since they are inner channel visors

negative note : b4 hitting the logging roads came out to find a new dent in my truck form some ahole that hit it in the safeway parking lot

With the incoming SC install, I wanted to try to keep it clean and install a catch can / air-oil separator. So I installed this:



It feels a little small, but a) it actually has a filtering element, b) it has a clear catch cup so visual check is easy and it unscrews to empty, and c) it's US made and appears to be quality.

It fits neatly on the side of the airbox, where it's easy to check and empty:



All that said, don't know if it's any good yet. Will only know if it's working when I have to empty it.

Changed fluids in front and rear differentials and transfer case. The rear diff and transfer case the old oil still looked good. The oil coming out of the front diff was dark and cloudy, lots of buildup on the magnet on the drain plug. Is this something to be concerned about?
I have 1.5 quarts of gear oil left over, so I figured I would drain and fill the front diff again after 5000 miles just to make sure it is cleaned out well.

Thanks. It wasn't a kit, just picked up most of the bulbs from superbrightleds.com
This thread gave me most of the info needed 1998 4runner Gauge Back Lighting - YotaTech Forums

The bulbs I got from Superbrightleds

T1.5-B: Blue -turn signal #74bulb in twist lock base
74-B: Blue hvac, ash tray, ignition ring (you'll need to trim some plastic from the ring for the bulb to fit)
WLED-B-120: Blue 120 Degree -instrument light

The ac switch bulb (it's still green when ac is on but button back light is blue) and rear window switch was order from Amazon because of cheaper pricing.

Install was easy. Just remember to plug the dimmer switch back in before trying to test. Took me longer to figure that out than it did to instal the bulbs. I also cleaned the cluster housing while out and it made a huge difference.

I've never seen a differential, trans, or transfer case magnet NOT have stuff on it when you pull it out. Cloudy usually means moisture but if it didn't look like milk I wouldn't worry.

I still need to install steering and sway bar bushings, change the TB and install a new radiator, install my tranny cooler, buy and install new catalytic converters (damn CEL) and get the drive shaft balanced with new universals before it'll be done. Always something........:violin:

Got tired of the terrible horns on this thing, so I figured I'd finally put to use one of the pairs of Hella Supertones I've had sitting around for years that were intended for my WRX(4 cars ago). About a half hour and a bit of wiring later and they were in.

They're basically invisible with the current grille in, and I'd probably paint the cage on them black if I get around to a Satoshi style grille.

As far as how loud they are, they literally made my roommate jump when I hit the horn. I'm sure I could have just plugged them into the factory wiring, but his reaction made wiring up the relay worth it.
