What did you do to your 3rd gen today?

It is an adhesive sound deadening material. Sold at Lowes/Home Depot I believe.

It's good for a budget material, but there are biased people like me, who use other stuff :)

It is about half the thickness of the "goodstuff" but at 1/4 the price I'll just double it up and still be ahead. [emoji12]

Actually it's roof sealer if it's the stuff I'm thinking of. Not sound deadening. And it's asphalt based instead of rubber. I've used it before and in the hot sun you could smell it and it would leave a helluva mess.

The home Depot stuff works great if you lightly torch it. Don't over heat it, the aluminum will peel. just lightly torch it and let it cool. It conforms and hardens under heat.

Replaced the front UCAs, upper and lower ball joints, sway bar links (front and rear), front inner axle, and rear lower control arm. I had a guy at the base auto hobby shop do the work since I don't have the time and he was charging half what any of the shops were estimating. He's a Toyora master mechanic so I trust his work. Saved me time and money, now I have time this weekend to do the weeding that's been neglected

Tundra TRD fronts and OME 890 rears - was nice to be able to do them in my buddy's shop.

I just got ~125 sq ft for $277 of the good stuff.

Whoever said it's roofing sealer or whatever, well of course. Home Depot and the like don't sell stereo sound deadening equipment. It's USED for those properties though.

I personally can't stand the smell of the cheaper stuff. I used Fatmat before, STUNK like ass for several weeks. I also used 2 layers of Raammat and ensolite the next time. Now I exclusively use Second Skin stuff. They don't pay me, but it works excellent. They have "b-stock" stuff that is slight imperfection quality and I only buy that, otherwise, yea, it's too damn expensive for me.

All I needed to see was the HUGE difference in dampening and noise reduction from RM/Ensolite double layered to a single layer of SS. To each their own, I have just learned in life, it's worth doing once and doing right where reasonable. Ripping interior apart and rolling it on with a little wooden wheel is a *****. I only want to do it once per vehicle.

Misfire update

I started the day off with a #2 cylinder misfire. I replaced the plug with an E3 Diamond Edge (I know, not recommended, but it was all they had and I figured it would work for a day). Anyway. Fired it back up and now I have a "Random Misfire" code, a #1 cylinder misfire, and a #2 cylinder misfire.

Alright men, our enemy is a devious one, he likes to play games, and mess with our heads. I have installed Denso double Platinums (couldn't get the cheaper ones), and confirmed a solid connection on all coil packs and slave wires. The misfire has now moved to the #6 cylinder, or so my OBDII Blue Tooth magic box is telling me. Tomorrow I will receive OE Denso Coil packs (3 of them) and OE slave wires. I'll also pull and re-check the new plugs. Any suggestions, insults, razzs, or jokes are appreciated.

If anyone has installed a front Aussie on here PM me, don't have enough posts to start a thread. Ran into a little snag. It appears my thrust washers are too thick but reading the Aussie instructions, it seems like if anything they would be too worn, not needing replaced with a thinner set.

How many posts does guy need to start a thread anyway? :naughty:

I hear ya... I got 75sqft for $36. I know all about the smell and only did the doors. They recommend that if you use it, use it on the doors. I've got limited flares so if it's gunna "outgas" there are plenty of holes out. As for the complete interior, I'll get the good stuff for that.

Haters gunna hate.

I used quite a bit of the Peel and Seal stuff. It did not smell after a day or so, even when the temps got up to 100 outside. I checked it and it will get soft and run a little. I used aluminum tape to seal the seams and stop the running. And as was mentioned, a little heat helps it stick well and conform. I used a heat gun rather than the torch, tho.

The good stuff is very expensive when compared to the Peel and Seal. I am sure it works better but I went the less expensive route.

I removed the sunroof deflector and the rubber fender trims. Mainly because I don't want dirt and moisture getting trapped. The truck turned out to look way better without them. I think it looks way cleaner now.

Also cleaned the MAF sensor and cleaned out the throttle body. I think I figured out my weird idle problem when I start my truck!

Was planning on changing the gear oil in the rear end, but turns out I don't have a 24 mm socket. I did have to use a torch and a 24 mm wrench to get the fill plug off to at least top it off. Was going to fix an exhaust leak, but the nuts had basically disintegrated, so that'll have to wait. Noticed a leaking hard line, which started pissing coolant as soon as I touched it, so I had to bypass the rear heater. Noticed some bad wear on a tire, so I'm going to have to live with that for a week or two until my lift parts show up and I can get the front aligned. A lot of annoying surprises and I had no clue there was as much corrosion underneath as there is. I feel sorry for you rust belt people.

Finally got around to installing the B&M 70268 external transmission cooler. I bypassed the stock cooler like some had done here. The hardest part was cutting off the old lines. Connections are in a tough spot. After that it was pretty straight forward. Good piece of mind to thwart the dreaded strawberry milkshake. Couldn't/wouldn't have done it without this forum.
