What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

You will have a worse turning radius with the Tacoma set up. Not sure if you need the tacoma inner tie rods as well or not.

The only difference i can see with both laying side by side is the size of the tie rod hole, and the steering stop tab....should i do a little gronding on the steering stop, or is it not worth it?

I wouldn't recommend grinding on the steering stop, but I haven't really looked into the Taco swap. I just went all OEM 4Runner parts myself.

Its hard to say how they sit compared to stock because of how bad my seats were. They bolt in with the corbreau 4runner brackets but it does require a bit of finessing to bend the existing seat belt receptacle thing to fit on these. Ill take some more pics tomorrow when its light out, including the brackets.

I did end up removing my underseat heater thing for the rear passengers because it makes fitting the passenger seat hard, i live in texas so its never that cold, and it looks like an issue waiting to happen spewing coolant all over my floor or something similar.

Please! I'm very interested in getting rid of my base model seats.

Misc upkeep: replaced the exhaust hanger/insulators (one was broken, one needed cutting when I put my bumper on), replaced the rear gate struts, managed to get the spare tucked back in place.

Bumper needs adjusting a bit, having tilted ever-so-slightly forward and bowing out the front flares a tad. Going to see if I can use that to my advantage.

Thinking about blacking out my mirror housings again after seeing how well it turned out for hour . Probably one of my next little projects after sorting out the above.

The midge huh? Yeah I don't know what they are but they stink!
It's just south of Redding, had to pull over every chance I could to wait in line at the gas stations for the window squeegee. It was bad!

Yea, not the midges. They're unique to K-Falls over by Klamath Falls lake. Swarms and swarms of mouthless green or black bugs. Piles of them on the curbs. They usually arrive in late June through July.

I installed some ditch lights today. Gonna test out the brightness in a few and adjust angle.

Had to take my K&N out and put stock back in. Modified the Tube to work with my stock setup.

Not quite today, but I replaced the starter copper contacts and the magnetic plunger last weekend. Took longer than I care to admit figuring out how to get to it and pull it out, though if I ever have to do it again, it'll go much quicker.

The 4Runner started and drove perfectly fine last week, then this morning, went to start it, and it won't start. Ended up being able to reach the wire plug on the engine side of the starter with my hand through the engine bay. Wiggled that connection around a bit and it fired right up afterwards. Is there a good way to tie the connection, clamp them together better or otherwise permanently apply compression to it so that it can't wiggle the connection loose again?

Jackstands people!!!

Don't worry, it's there, this angle just makes it hard to see. If you look between the floor jack and the piece of wood, you'll see the black jack stand hiding behind the floor jack and with the front cross member resting on it.

But otherwise, yes, 100% agree, always jack stands. Safety first.

I was just about to say, I see a jack stand.

Anyway, I'm a bit confused by your post. The connection from battery to starter was loose, so you replaced contacts+plunger?

You're right. I missed it and thought it was just held up by the red jack and the tire under the center.

Well, not really. Truck wasn't cranking, tested battery, relays and fuses. Tested that starter was getting 12.3V. Did research on here and figured it was the plunger and contacts, so I got the parts, dug into it and replaced those last week. Sweet, truck cranks and starts right up afterwards.

Fast forward a week of driving it and it starting fine, and yesterday morning, got in and it won't crank or start. I poked around a bit, checked relays and fuses, and still nothing happened. After I reached down there and jiggled that connector on the back side of the starter, it started right up, and it started after shutting it off and testing it a few more times, leading me to think that that electrical connector is wiggling or vibrating itself loose.

--

So now it's the connector on the back side of the starter getting itself loose enough that it's not making full electrical contact. Was it that in the first place instead of the contacts? Possibly, but that one visibly plugged in connector actually not quite making full electrical contact never crossed my mind. It was starting just fine previously and I hadn't messed with anything electrical, the starter, or anything in that starter area until the truck stopped cranking/starting.

Got all the 4 ball joints and both tie rods replaced, put a different airbag spacer in the rear coils and took her for a good test drive.

Her she is with the bags a little aired up. She should sit pretty level when i add my 100 lbs motorcycle carrier and sportbike to the back of it!

Holy smokes! The rack on that ol' girl is impressive!

So what's up Mark, she got a name? Where she from? She looks like she knows how to take a load! I guess she really likes it on top right? How about mounting her — one man job or does it take a couple fellas to put the screws to her? Is she a howler when you really get moving?

Ok ok I'll stop....

I have so many questions :D

Lol haven't come up with a good name yet....if i had to guess id say the rack weighs in around 85-90lbs (50"x99") but i was able to lift it up and set it in place by myself. The rack has 6 legs and 2 bolts per leg down through the roof with cap tape sandwiched between the legs and roof. I don't own a truck but wanted to be able to haul full sheets of drywall, plywood or whatever, plus use it for sleeping when we go camping. Yes on the highway it does make a good bit of noise that i think i can stop with a 4" peice of plastic as a wid deflector.

3" lift on front an rear but the PO (my next door neighbor used it as his farm truck for years) so he added 1000lb overloader air bags that will raise it another 3-4" unloaded.

I ended up welding in a second hitch receiver off the panhard bar so i can run my motorcycle carrier through both and pin it in the front one so i don't bend my stock rear reciever (motorcycle carrier is close to 100lb empty plus a 400 lbs bike ) so i didn't want to take any chances on losing my bike when we were a 200 mile trip.

While my neighbor owned it he pushed a few things around the farm with it so the front bumper was pretty much destroyed and the rear bumper was rusted out so i built my own plate steel bumpers for her too.
Any questions feel free to ask!
