What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Yeah, I plan on doing this tonight when I get home. I just didn't have time yesterday. Fun.

After you are done getting out as much water out as you can, spray everything liberally with Lysol aerosol spray. We use it a lot on carpets in buildings that have water leaks and it does a pretty good job of keeping mold from forming.

I've never seen it stain anything but as always, test in an inconspicuous area first.

Im crying for you.

When I dropped the truck off I made a joke to the service advisor about scrapping it if this was too expensive. When he called back he was almost scared that I was serious. He said something to the effect of "You're not really considering scrapping it are you....it's way too nice for that!" and actually sounded relieved when I told him to go ahead with it. :hat:

On the internet that story could sound like he was just trying to sell me, but in person the guy sounded completely genuinely concerned that I was going to scrap it over the repair cost.

If I had to drop 2300 for a stock rear end, I would be done with my 4runner. Thats for sure. I better be getting regeared, locked front and rear, or a supercharger for that money.

I would have bought a beater car and resold it once I fixed the 4runner. But thats just me.

I wish that were an option, but I'm heading into my busiest part of they year, and I need the space and 4WD of the 4Runner. It would be spring before I have time to wrench on it myself. I'm actually shopping around for a replacement for it with lower miles so I don't get into these situations in the future. Missing a few days of work for me costs way more than the extra cost involved in the dealer repair.

Baked open the headlights and corner lights for a retrofit.

Installed 190lph denso Evo 8 fuel pump. She is back up and running. Super quiet. Feels like I got more power and better throttle response. Pump must have been starting to fail for some time.

Well I was going to make a bid for those rims and tires .

I still see plenty of low mileage 4runner in FL (less than 200K miles) and since there haven't been too many hurricanes lately there really isn't a problem with possible water damage.:artist2:

On the plus side you now know how to take the entire dash apart and (hopefully) put it back together. :)

And also millennium falcon's got nothing on stick shift. :D

Haha! Good point! And the t4r is way more reliable.

good time to fix any rattles, replace all bulbs with LED's, clean heater core, and vents, wire in a scan gauge, install an antenna kill switch and a fuel pump kill switch
.......
hey maybe that was the plan all along :)

Oh man, all that was exactly what I was thinking as I tore it apart. Unfortunately I am on a tight time line (moving) and tight budget (see moving). The I allowed myself was some compressed air, Spray 9 and elbow grease.

The good news is I got it back in no problem, and like habanero said, I know exactly how (easy) it is for next time. Mmm, LEDs...

Oh, and I installed the Taco whip while I had it all apart because parts shelf.

Well its 3am. Time for a nap. I got all balls deep in her today and she is naked but I have a cure for her in the morning. Have to go and get oil cooler gasket from dealer and then get that situated and her new transplant will be dropped in.

Nice headers, Jerk! =D

Since my 4Runner is running so well after the new heads I decided it was time to tear it apart again.

My Whiteline LCA bushings that I installed back in February are already shot and making alllll sorts of racket. I decided to go the "easy" route this time and just buy some factory LCAs. All was right in the world, everything going to plan. Of course, that can never last long. While re-installing the rearmost LCA bolt on the passenger side the bolt stopped spinning, so I busted out the torque wrench and torqued to spec. When I removed the wrench I noticed the washer rattled. Sure enough, it was nowhere NEAR all the way tightened down. Removed the bolt and found the threads on the nut side were totally chewed up, and the threads on the bolt itself were nearly non-existent.

Called the local dealer and they wanted like $10 for the bolt, and $33 for the cam adjuster. I would have paid it, but they could not have it for me until Friday. Nope. Late night trip up to DeathCougar's parts emporium and I have a couple more bolts and cam adjuster things. Now just drinking coffee waiting for my HOA's "quiet" time to end so I can finish the job before my alignment appointment.

Quoted again to make sure you see it... Is your knock sensor harness going to reach it's plug...? It plugs in up near the front of the fuel rail on the intake manifold, kinda under the PCV valve.

Typically routed like so:

After a bunch of welding and filing and torching and drilling and rethreading I FINALLY got my factory skids back on!

I took them off 2 years ago lol

Soending the afternoon doing some interior cleaning. I didn't get a picture before hand but my gauges were pretty covered in mud. Now I can see all of my cluster and I went a step further and applied rain-x just for the S&G's. Haha.
