What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Installed a Pioneer AVH280 yesterday. Have speakers and a sub to put in this weekend.

Also, just picked up a set of N-Fab steps for a 5th gen that I'll be making fit. Short wife, like, really short, so they're kind of a need. Hate the factory steps and she veto'd sliders, which honestly probably wouldn't have helped her anyway.

Pushed forward and finished up most of the Shrockworks bumper install, got the license plate light working, and the turn signals/amber marker lights. Just got fogs left to do, pics in my build thread.

I drove it to my friends house so that I could help him install his new trail gear bumper on his 2nd gen. Looks good for a tube bumper but I still think plate is gonna be the way that I go with mine.

I finally installed the new carpet today. Got sick of driving around in a stripped out car.

what do you mean by this statement? how is it plumbed now?

also did you re gear after you went up in tire size? that could be it as well.
when i went to a 33" my 4runner feels like a fat pig now. i cant wait to regear

Years ago I installed a B&M transmission cooler and bypassed the radiator's internal cooler to eliminate the risk of pink milkshake. Now that I'm hauling more weight, towing, and seem to go off roading on the hottest of days, it's causing my transmission to be warmer than I'm comfortable with. Since I installed a new radiator <2 yrs ago, I'm planning on letting the B&M flow in to the factory cooler and then back in to the transmission. This should stabilize things a little bit.

I'd have already regeared if it were a simple DIY job, or even a relatively straight forward DIY job, or even a tedious DIY job with any margin for error. Just too expensive to pay for a pro to do it on such an old pig.

In keeping theme with the thread though, I ordered a new OEM fuel filter off Amazon and will be cleaning the MAF sensor. Only two things I can think of that could sneak below radar of a check engine light.. and the fuel filter is one of the very few items I haven't replaced, previous owner claimed to have done it shortly before sale. Fingers crossed.

Finished cleaning the old gray gasket off the oil pump housing. Ordered that dawmn screw that stripped out holding the backing plate on. SC parts showed up. Going to be a long wait until Wed when the valve stem seals show up along with the rest of the top end pieces.

Ah okay so are you going to use both of the coolers? Tomorrow I'm bypassing the rad cooler since im putting in a new rad at the same time. I'm wondering if i should plumb it inline.

hour have you thought about using two tranny coolers? I think if you've replaced the radiator you're probably good either way though.

I would 100% run it through your aux cooler and then in to your new radiator's cooler. The only purpose I know of for bypassing the radiator is to eliminate the potential for the radiator to corrode and leak coolant in to your transmission fluid. I'd like to think this is next to impossible using a quality new radiator and proper coolant. I'm using Zerex red for what it's worth.. I'd suggest you use Toyota Red or Zerex too and start things off on a good note.

I don't know how effective the in-radiator cooler is, but I clearly need more cooling especially off road at low speed, and having 190* coolant aiding in the cause is way better than circulating 240* fluid through a heat soaked aux cooler, facing the sun, climbing 1,000 feet at 3mph on the trail.

Yeah I thought about it or adding a manual or thermo controlled fan. Ultimately it came down to me having just installed a new grille, knowing I'd break the clips taking it off as always, and the cost of hooking back up to the radiator is about $3 vs $60+ for a new secondary cooler, or $30+ for a fan.

I've done the drain+fill with MaxLife ATF for a few gallons in the last 500 miles, so that should all be good. If the radiator + aux cooler can't handle it, I'll probably jump for a fan over what would be a third transmission cooler at that point.. or just say F it as the cool weather returns to the rockies :pimp:

Haha! Guess you aren't Gangster of love if you don't recognize the word flower. Bahahahahaha!!

Hah yeah that definitely helps, I'd have to hit the hill at 80 to maintain 45-50. Never have any check engine lights, new plugs and wires, clean air filter, new oil change, tires at 35psi.. Not even sure where to begin.
Check the intake tube before the airbox?
The deckplate mod might help too.
