What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Did some engine and suspension work: replaced the UBJs, LBJs, and sway bar bushings before replacing the battery, wiring, spark plugs, spark plug wires... then changed out the power steering fluid. Had the control arm bushings to do but they just didn't need replacing (no movement at all; looked great).
4Runner drives a whole lot tighter now... those UBJs were pretty bad. 267,000 miles and counting.

On the downside it looks like I need a new steering rack and front swaybar links soon. Then onto this: TIMING BELT KIT WATER PUMP Genuine & OE Manufacture Parts! 3.4 V6 15 PIECES | eBay

:lalala:

Played around on some trails and exercised the suspension! Had a ball!

walked out this morning to a nice sized puddle of ATF under my truck. Quickly isolated the leak to the lower connection on my B&M trans cooler....very visible, albeit slow. Drove the Lexus.

No puddle in my parking space at work from yesterday, so the leak's only intensified itself since it got parked in my driveway last night at 7:00pm.

anybody else experience trans cooler hose/clamp failures in real cold temps? got down to the 20s last night, which I realize isn't cold for a lot of y'all, but it's definitely the coldest my 4Runner's experienced since the install of the B&M 1 year and 14k miles ago...

In the South humidity and cold don't mix. Buy another worm drive stainless clamp and tighten it down something serious.

Cold in the South like today is equivalent to 15 and colder in the Rockies.

thanks 'LilCease....some quick googling brought me lots of others across various car forums with similar issues in cold. Kinda embarassed to say I've had the extra trans cooler hose and new clamps in my bedroom for 3 weeks now....just waiting on the motivation to get out and re-route my cooler lines to clean things up.

guess that motivation showed up today in the form of ATF puddles.

@littlecaeser what size clamps should I order for ATF hose? it's 3/8ID but not sure what the OD is..

Trying to remove the snapped bolts on my lbj. Having a tough time doing though, iv tried a bolt extractor, lots of pb blaster, a torch, not much luck though. The 2 outter bolts got worked out and the 2 inner ones snapped. Any advice would be great

so your lbj failed because the bolts sheared off? Pics please

Quentin, those pics hurt to look at. I never had the 'touch' for sheared bolts (read patience).

Sorry about your loss. What was the overall damage like? Had you ever replaced your LBJ's?

The ball joint its self is fine, it mounts to the knuckle with 4 bolts, 2 of them snapped. In the picture you can see a replaced outer one and a missing inner. The only dammage iv surveyed so far is the bolts, but only time will tell. The cv popped out of the dif but i got i plugged back in so i could limp it home on 2 bolts.

Something around this size works, I usually buy them in packs of 10. I have actually had a non stainless worm drive clamp rust away before on a truck, thus always stainless for me....

Remove the LBJ if the bolts are stuck in there, then drill them out if mapp or oxy doesn't work. If they are stuck in the knuckle, I would really use the heat on them before removing the knuckle. This is where an impact is your friend...

I take it the bolts were original.....
