What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Finally got a chance to install my Treadstone Offroad stealth winch plate for the fat lip 3rd gens. Now I need to figure out a solution to remount the front license plate.

Got to ask Mike if you have been pulled by the CA fuzz yet now with the 2UZ?

Are you running that external ATF cooler alone or in series with the radiator?

What size tires are you running? That looks pretty small for a 3" lift...

Im running 33x10.50r15

I finished up installing my old Rigid Duallys to the bumper! I liked the old spot outside the A-pillars, but I wanted to try something a little different. I modified the OE wiring harness they included to be the correct lengths since it was extremely messy the last time around. I'm happy with the results...I just need to go out and use the lights now!

today installed night fox LED pods and wired to the back up lights.
Also installed led front parking light bulbs, and rear led parking/ brake lights.
Still not very dark out today, but I can tell they are going to be a big improvement. I really like the bright white front parking lights, since I did the DRL delete, my parking lights can act like them... if and when needed

I just went with cheap ones from amazon that had good reviews since they are so easy to replace.

I had installed back up light led bulbs in the stock housing, those were an improvement, but they were not as bright as I needed

I've been bouncing back and forth looking at 3rd gens and 4th gens. The few 4th gens in my budget range are generally not in overall great condition, so I decided to go with a uber cheap '97 that needs a motor ( at the very least) and just slap together a trail rig/ occasional driver. I'll pay for it and pick it up on Friday morning.

Almost no coolant in the rad, it will start and belch white smoke along with a constant metallic sounding " bang, bang, bang" that stays constant with rpms. I'm going with bad rod, I've never heard a blown head gasket make that kind of noise.

I'd hate to piss in your cornflakes, but there's no way those 3 bolts will hold up to heavy winching. The bolts aren't the major problem, it's where they're located and what they're connected to. That end plate is tack welded onto the frame. If you want to add strength, have it tie into the factory tow hook mounts

Agreed with you about using for heavy winching. We had the same concerns, and that's part of what needs to be figured out before putting this into production. The idea here is to keep it as bolt-on as possible. Bolting into the tow hooks is an idea we have considered, but they are recessed in pretty far and we don't want to require cutting off the existing crash plates.

For my "emergency only" winching usage, we felt that just completing the welds on the plate to the frame should be good enough. Since there seems to be some interest to produce this, we are going to pull mine apart and come up with some other creative ideas to reinforce things for production versions. We also want to include the side brackets as part of the main unit as those had to be cut off the old crash structure on mine.

When we have something more concrete I'll post up a fresh thread.

Haha no I drive it pretty conservatively, but it definitely pulls hard at freeway speeds. We are going to try some trailering with it this weekend too.

The external cooler we pulled off the Sequoia and it is running in series with the radiator. Its a bit of a mess of hoses behind the bumper and grille, as we also ran the A/C lines out across the front. You can see a bit of it in the pics above of the winch install :)

Got some supplies at the local junkyard, getting ready for the '99 console swap:

Also putting some finishing touches on the interior to replace missing parts, it's the little things that make it all come together:

Three days into owning a 98 LTD, planning to keep all suspension and wheel components stock, decided to take off the running boards. They make the thing look like a soccer-mom special (not that I don't love soccer moms, mind you), and I already have to step up higher to get to the side-step on my leveled-not-lifted truck. So if anyone needs some white running boards around Knoxville, TN, I have some. lol

When you tackle this mod, can you post the diagram you use. most of the ones I've found don't have much information or are outdated.

Sure thing! When I get to it, I'll start a new thread. As you can deduce from the photo, I also liberated the '00 ECT and Rear Window switch panel, which are in the dash. I'm not sure that I've seen any relocation solutions for these that I loved, since they end up with an upside rear window switch labeling, so I'll see if I can try to make use of the '00 panel. May end up being a short lived idea, I dunno.

Running into issues with the paperwork on this '97 Limited that I want to buy. I knew that it was being sold as a 'salvage' vehicle, I wasn't too concerned with that. The vehicle is in PA, I'm a MD resident. I've spoken with the Maryland State Police and fully understand whats involved with getting a 'salvage vehicle inspection' prior to getting the title work done.

The seller is throwing me a curve ball by claiming that he/ his dealership doesn't have the title, only the certificate from the towing company auction where he got it. He's claiming that he can't get a salvage branded title, that I need to have a salvage inspection done in PA so that I can get a branded title in my name, then take the title to the MD State police salvage inspection so that I can get it transferred into a MD title w/ a salvage brand. I'm smelling a rotten fish, but since I have no experience with this kind of headache, if anyone knows for sure how things work, and could chime in to clarify, I'd be greatly appreciative.
