Anybody else looking to paint the flares, a quick tip.. use index cards to stuff between flare and fender..much easier then trying to get tape in between the 2 parts.

great tip! what paint did you use?

I just took mine on a 3.5 hr round trip yesterday to look at an Accord for a DD. The CEL stayed off, so that was good. Fuel mileage has definitely showed improvement and the truck just seems to run better, so the new Cats were a good decision. Now to start tracking down some heavy vibrations around 70 mph.

You should let me know what you come up with on your vibration. Replaced everything in front end so have come to the conclusion its Tran or Motor mounts or unbalanced tires.

BTDT - start with the tires (got this tip from the wise members here). Another tip - it's not always just balance - I had my tires balanced twice, with no improvement. I was literally considering selling the truck, that's how annoying it was. Then I bought a new set of tires, and it's been smooth as silk ever since. Remember that just balancing does not address things like runout or flat spots.

Did lower ball joints and fixed a windshield rock chip. The lbj took me 2.5 hours with hand tools, including getting everything ready and putting all the tools away. Not a bad job at all. The old ball joints did not feel bad when I compared them to the new ones but I could feel the difference when I drove the truck, more solid feel to the front end. 250,000 miles on the old ones so I guess it would make a difference.

I have new oem LBJs sitting in my garage that I need to install soon. About the same amount of miles on my current ones. Glad to hear it was a pretty straightforward job!

Yep.. me too. I've been stacking up parts to redo all that business up there in front suspension/bushings/steering parts.
In the back of my head I keep stressing myself out thinking I'm going to get stuck on it. Always beneficial to hear these sort of posts confirming that I'm making way more of an issue of it in my head than it really is. hah. :yo:

Nice so long as they aren't Moog.. too many people make this mistake.

^ grinning at the name of the company ! "here's your FN wheels "

I replaced a frozen u-joint on the rear DS. I had a bit of fun on damp roads motoring around in front wheel drive chasing down a new u-joint. :)

Looks good! And I'm pretty jealous of the shop you have to work on it!!

Thank you! I can’t believe the difference proper wheels and tires make!

I am blessed to say the least, I have really great friends with an amazing German shop who let me work on my Japanese truck.

Traded it in with 65k miles. Idea of doing timing belt, spark plugs, lower ball joints, struts all around, replacing rusting running boards and rear bumper pieces was just too much for me. Catalytic coverter also had a pinhole or two in it. Frame was very solid, but still more rust than I'd like.

Dealer got a killer trade in deal though, only gave me $2750. If I had more time, I would have sold it privately, but it is what it is. Cosmetically, the car looked great. Going to regret it, but hopefully the person who picks it up can give it the attention it needs. Has been in the family since being bought off the showroom floor in 2000, itll be missed

Haha.
I’ve had moogs on for 10k still no issues
My cousin has had his moogs in for 120k still no issues 98 taco
My father in law has had his moogs in for 50-60k 3 trips to Mexico still no issues. He actually just got back last week and i checked them, still tighter than a dolphins blow hole. 99 4Runner.
I’ve seen OE fail in as little as 12k
Fact of the matter is if it is going to fail it will.
Everyone has there preference/opinion
