What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I also got a new rear shaft for my 99 limited from the same place. Were the front and rear flange on your new shaft thicker then the oem? Leaving less threads for the nuts to grab.

Flat tire+extra tight lug nuts via dealership+awkward OEM wrench+suspect wheel locks = a easy spare swap turning into 48hrs of excessive cursing and struggling to get a broken wheel lock off, bumming rides to tool stores and questioning my general sanity.

In the end, it took banging the lock key with a hammer to dislodge the broken shard (which refused prying, cutting, drilling), hammering key onto the broken lock and with a final Clark Griswold Christmas Vacation-level push, forcing it free. Thankfully tire was patchable. Ordered replacement lug nuts; these locks are going in the dumpster!!!:frusty:

The bumper is mounted to the frame and is built with a stock body height in mind.
The body lift moves the body up away from the frame and above the stock body height, therefore creating the gap.

Ahhh, makes sense. Thanks a lot. I'm still super new to all this and hope to learn a whole lot more. This place is an absolute wealth of information!

You can usually take a smaller socket. Hammer it on and break the lug lose. Ask me how I know !!!

Everybody is super new to something at some point, right? Hopefully I'll be learning stuff right up til my last breath!
Totally agree about the wealth of information and the number of people willing to share it here is awesome.

Did you reclocking your winch to make reaching the freespool handle easier to access?

Yeah I reclocked it so the free spool handle can be reached by the lower cutout. And I rotated the other end so the electrical connections are facing more towards the back/top

Yes exactly what habanero said. There is a way to cut the brackets and weld them up higher to accommodate the lift (1" in my case) but I'm not sure if it's a good idea with the winch since it will create more torsion on the ends of the frame rails, not to mention a decent amount of work haha. And yes, this place is a wealth of information. I'm pretty new to the forum myself but I've been searching it and utilizing it for years. There's an answer to almost any question you can think of on here, and if not someone who will be willing to help. Good luck with your new T4R!

I was hoping to get mine welded together and installed today but I decided to do the LBJ's and new CV axles instead. Maybe I can get it started tomorrow if the weather holds up. Which ones are those? 4x innovations? I just went with the basic trail gear ones. They held up fine on my old 2nd gen only thing is they don't come with the rear kickout

New to the board.

Purchased this from another forum member here earlier in the month.

Slapped on some Trail Wheels right away. Changed out all my drive belts yesterday. Waiting on LBJ to come in and will get that done.

First time 4Runner owner and I completely understand why everyone loves their T4R

I’ve been trying to remove and primer rust areas around the windshield and wheel well area! Also pulled apart my back wheel to try to figure out where I’m getting a fluid leak from.

painted my rear wing.

just need to do the rack, rear hatch and bumper guard now.

Gonna install tomorrow, I just looked at the factory shaft flanges, one is thicker than the other, but also one set of bolts is 1.25 inches long, and the others are 1.5 inches long.
The new shaft both flanges are the same thick size plates, not really an issue, can just use 1.5 inch bolts on both sides. I'll scalp the long ones off my parts rig for this install. The short bolts should still work, but yeah I'd put some longer ones on for piece of mind.

This weekend was a busy one for my '02 Sport.
My dog just had TPLO surgery for his ACL so we were stuck around the house monitoring him so I had some down time...
Pulled out the entire interior & played down 80mm sound deadening to try to help with road/wind noise. While I had it all pulled I borrowed the wife's garment steamer & gave the seats & carpet a good cleaning. The steamer really seemed to help revive the 16yr old foam in the seats.
Repainted the back bumper cover & a few trim pieces.
Went for the LED light swap throughout the interior.

This is where I could use some help as I'm an electrical neophyte...
Both map lights & the front dome look great in bright white LED. Rear cargo & license pair won't power on. Thought the bulbs were burned so I tried 2x led in the cargo & even the known good halogen from the front, no dice but it looks like it's getting power to the connector (still haven't put it all back together as I'm wiring up a backup cam while I have it all ripped apart). Hoping it's just the switch which I can find at a upull.
Also had a fog light out - 1 is cracked, I've coated the crack in both UV resin & zap a gap (thanks to my fly tying box) and upgraded to brighter lights. Have had no luck finding a replacement at a pick n pull even if I get there the day a new runner is laid out...

Dash got pulled as well. The 74s for the glove box, shifter & keyring got swapped easily enough.

The 3 & 4 mm Neo lights (all from superbright led) were a PITA to fit in as they're bigger than the oem lights. Tried them all in both positions & no light... only 1 light was out to begin with...
Pulled the instrument cluster. Replaced the 3 backlight 24s with blue LED and it looks great to me. Noticed D was out - read on these forums that led in the gear lights can trigger VCS so just used one of the oem 74s I'd previously pulled. That did the trick but at least initially still triggered the VCS lights. Looks like it went away though.

Back to the climate control - I am comfortable poking around but have no real clue with electric. Ran back 2 a pick n pull & grabbed a different climate box - and the window ECT bar - tear window, defi, climate works on both boxes but No light.

Also during all this the sound went out on my new Kenwood receiver (before I pulled to wire the camera). I'm guessing it's a ground issue somewhere but have no clue how/where to check, any ideas?

I can post more info if it helps anyone help me troubleshoot, just really want my Sound & center console lights back.

Thanks in advance!

Taking her on 1st wheeling trip of summer. Hope the old girl does well. Just me and my bros 35" 4th gen.

Will post pics later.
