What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Truck started coughing with sputtering on the way home the other day. Did the plugs and wires about 2 years ago but didn't do the coil packs at that time. Changed them out today along with plugs and a fuel filter, seems to be running fine now but I'll get a longer drive in later tonight. If that doesn't work I'll start looking at the injectors. Fangerz crossed.

Got my ac refrigerant recharged at 323,474 miles ...my system held normal pressure and has no leaks but my actual refrigerant was expired and also got my blend door cable fixed and hooked up correctly since the guys that did my heater core did a crappy job on that project

Pulled the muffler off my parts runner and put it in mine. Mine had a hole. Absolutely silent now. Love it. Cut it off so she won’t get squished.

Also pulled the roof rack cross bars off the parts unit and put them on mine just for shits. Super classy.

Does your exhaust smell bad?

Does your exhaust smell bad? I have one 4runner with a known blown head gasket from overheating. My other one has never overheated as far as I know and I think it's good but the exhaust stinks. Compared to most modern cars it smells bad, but then I haven't ever intentionally smelled the exhaust from a 3rd gen that I know 100% certain is running well. The other day I started up the good one and it was making white smoke, although to be fair it was cool and had just rained. The coolant reservoir is half way between full and empty, I can't remember what it was when I filled it up last. No cream under the gas cap. Maybe I'm just being paranoid. I guess I won't know for sure until after another few hundred km and I compare the coolant reservoir.

I'm rocking the color Pyroplastic on the plate bumpers and rockers. My plan is to do the whole thing Monstaliner with 2 tone Desert Dune factory tint with Pyroplastic secondaries.

Last evening, moved it to driveway so I'd have space in garage for my AOR plate bumper to sleep that took 3 months to the day to receive, removed shipping labels. Studied on what to cut off what to weld on.

Today: Put Audi, Harley, & Mule in driveway, Runner in garage see where this is going? Mock up time oh yea oh yea.

Replying to everyone...I haven't thought of any plans yet! (bulllshhitt! I had plans for a new 3rd gen the minute I sold mine a few years ago!)

I'm super Toyota nerding out about this one, ya ya ya I know the "Highlander" is really just an appearance thing, but I've been wanting one for a while so its cool as shit to me.

That being said, I don't wanna do as much as I did last time. It will also be my daily for a while. Initially plans are a lift once the stock suspension craps out, which it will do soon. Last time I had OME up front and Landcruiser/superflex in the rear, I'll probably do something similar. I'd like to get another full length roof rack made and throw another ARB awning on it as well. Sliders of some sort.

But that's about it. I really don't need full skids,bumpers and a snorkel this go around. I wanna build this as a go anywhere overlander/camper type of a rig instead of a creek crawlin wheeler. No satoshi, no fancy useless LEDs or projector headlights, none of that crap.

With 263k and my luck, something is bound to crap out soon. I'm gonna hold off on mods for a bit just to make sure everything is holding up. All that being said, I'm tickled to death to by back into a 3rd gen. As a kid I rode around in my dad's old Toyotas, and these 3rd gens ride and feel like any old Toyota should! That void that was created when I foolishy sold my '99 is damn near full! But the very first mod.....weathertechs!

That was my issue with the ones on my first 3rd gen, not done properly at all. I need to find a pair that were built right and spend the money on them. They were useful and I loved the looks

Projectors were the first Super useful mod I did on my truck, the difference was night and day, pardon the pun

just some marker lights from oreilly, i cut the hole only big enough to make part of the marker come through. the long leds i got off of amazon, i am working in the wiring this week so we'll see if they're any good. the heat sink on those leds def didn't fit the spot well so i had to do some grinding... i'll make sure and post pics with the lights in and on.

Here is a shot next to my bros Taco during a recent camping trip

Installed a divider that I built between the rear seats and cargo area. It's made with 4"x4" opening goat fencing panel, wrapped with 1/2" x 1/8" flat bar. The flat bar was drilled and countersunk for the fence to stick through, then tacked on the back side and ground flat. Brackets made to attach to the headrests out of 1/8" sheet and 7/16" coupling nuts, drilled out to 1/2". 2, 1/8" tabs at the top bolt it to the ceiling where the headliner clips use to be. Ceiling was drilled and M8x1.25 rivet nuts were installed (there's a dual layer so it didn't drill through the roof). Had it powder coated to match the interior when it was finished.
