What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Refreshed the rear bumper cover with Forever Black. Super happy with the results, very easy to prep and apply, just hope it lasts!

This now makes the rest of the truck look neglected.

Tried using this recently but my bottle is like 7 years old. Started on the black part of the limited running boards and it looked weird. Maybe it's old, or maybe you always need to do two coats?

Do you have running boards? Try it on those? And why did you remove the rear bumper cover to do it?

It comes off easy enough, and then there's no need to mask or to be careful.

Green Zombie got a second battery today. Copied CSL's use of a ruff stuff dual optima mount. I'll link his original write up below, thanks for the info you made it easy for me!

Some basic mock up pics:

Had an existing yellow top 35 (super close to 34/78 the box spec’s for, fits perfect)
And a Costco 35 for a starter. Costco 35 is about an inch too tall, so the pic below you can see I hadn’t sourced longer hold down bolts just yet. When it goes I’ll update to a shorter 34...but this clears everything fine.

Note the pic is prior to final cleanup/wire loom work.

Used this isolator:

I’ve had one of their battery tender style chargers for a while and love it, figured I’d give their isolator a try. Kit was nice, super reasonable at $115 with wires etc. Seems to be working flawlessly so far.

Couple hour install taking my time, easy deal. Now I can run the fridge on the lower cutoff setting without worrying about killing my starter battery.

FYI for the supercharger guys- it DOES clear the belt coming up from the alternator. I have the dynamic tensioner and theres probably an inch of clearance. Eyeballing it early on it looked worse than it turned out.

Did a tune up today. While replacing plugs and wires, noticed the PO had them replaced before. One of the ignition coils was missing the bolt. So went to the salvage to pick one up. While I was there I found a center console to swap as well. Not bad for $4.99

I put Mequiar's high gloss endurance on all my black trim and tires and it looks awesome, and stays on in the rain after a few times.

I'm just curious how yours turn out with this.

Will do! Folks seem to say that this stuff lasts for years, not the 2-3 car washes you get with the regular dressing stuff. Time will tell.

I had great luck with that stuff on my 89’s era 5.0 mustang. Similar black plastic cowl cover. Worked about like really good tire shine for me.

Last Sunday I finally dropped my CC1998 Champion Radiator in with new upper and lower radiator hoses and trans soft lines.

It was close to a drop in. Was a bit mangled in shipping but I was able to make it all straight again.

I had to open up the radiator holes in the core support one size to account for the horizontal shift in the mounting holes on the rad.

Should be plenty of cooling once I finally LS swap it :dancin:

How have I not noticed the 73 Duster before? Right on, I rarely see any others around anymore. Here's my 72 340 car, parked in it's reserved spot haha.

The duster also has a champion radiator, they are a great value for the price. 4Runner is still going strong with a factory one.

Alternator problems

Okay so I have put two Advanced Auto alternators in my 4Runner and neither one have had any output. Was told i needed to buy an actual Toyota alternator from a dealership or buy one from a junkyard. Any advice to what years alternators would swap over on a 2004? Also has anyone else has this problem?:noidea:

Not perfect by any means, but I repainted and cleared the plastic parts of my front bumper. 18 years old and 268k on it, I'm happy with how it turned out. Much better than how it did. My buddy in Dallas did the grill. If anyone lives in Dallas and needs some paint work done, check out my buddy Tony at Retromotive! He does fantastic work

New wheel/tire combo with decent used 265/70/17 nitto tires. FJ steelies...doesn’t look too bad. Might spray paint them in a dark grey to match the fender flares. We’ll see.

I also changed my plugs and wires, put in a new blend door actuator, and ordered an a/f sensor.

I was hoping to get the a/f sensor in before a long trip to Crater Lake and back tomorrow (500+ miles round trip) but at 25% off for home delivery of the part from Autozone.. it's gonna wait.

Drove it out of town for a change of scenery and took a poser shot at Red Rock Canyon. Unfortunately the day went into the toilet soon after - got to our little property in the desert only to find that some lowlife scumbags broke into our 5th wheel, and stripped it clean of everything - all the solar stuff, batteries, inverter, all my tools, etc. They even took the toilet seat - really??
