Also finally got rid of some plastidip; it feels good to go back to factory paint.

Looks nice! I’m confused by your description though. It has two airbags – Wtf?
Ha, no two airbags. The air bag explosion unit in the Camry se is a dual stage and wouldn’t be a plug and play with the 4Runner single stage, so I unscrewed the dual stage, took a single stage explosion unit from the ‘99 rav4 (single the single stage unit from the 4Runner doesn’t fit/align with the Camry airbag cover/core) and screwed that into the Camry cover/core. This way it was an easy plug and play conversion with no wire cutting.

duuuuude i owe you a beer!!! Finally someone who actually quit blinding people and fixed their crap/led/hid/conversion headlights. Where do i send it!!!!!!!

Thanks. I had the regular halogen lights, never cared for led/hid conversion. Do it right the first time so I saved enough to have a pair made. About the beer, I’m always in the mood for a good brew and good company. :biggrin2:

Sunday - the big Valve Cover leak overhaul.

...sadly discovering what a state some of my hoses are in after 183k miles.

Went really well apart from the odd bolt dropped and right at the lats minute buttoning up the plenum one of the plastic spark wire clips took a dive into the engine....mad chopstick skills to rescue that!

New seals everywhere, new cam plugs...will get around to new spark plugs/wires eventually!

Got to clean up the shit from the bottom of the motor now, this suckers been leaking a lil' nit of oil for a long time but at least there's not rust!!! Course then I'll find my rear main or oil pan is leaking..hahahahah!

Wheelers? Assembled? I'm considering a set for either my 3rd or 4th gen...

If they're any good, then the value proposition is incredible.

I hit the easier trails here in Colorado pretty often and it was time for new suspension so I finally bit the bullet and bought them. It's Manufacturer Part #: E80-82-005-01-22

Eibach markets them as off-road, and unfortunately I've been too busy since install to put much time on them, but at highway speed they are better than (old) stock suspension, and the few rocks I went over at Argentine Pass and Webster it held its own.

The nice part about them is the front struts are adjustable to account for more weight when I decide to jump on more trail armor down the road.

They did not come assembled, but the DIY auto repair shop I did the install at only charged me $15 to put them together (That medieval torture device called a spring compressor made me nervous anyways). I purchased new top hats ($50) for the install after I had some rounded off that required cutting to remove.

The tailgate handle on my 3rd Gen had always been a bit stiff to operate, but it got to the stage where the built-in spring was too weak to return the handle back to its normal position. You had to manually push it back after opening, otherwise the tailgate wouldn't click shut. I opened up the tailgate a few weeks back and discovered it was the handle itself - everything else was moving freely.

I took a guess and ordered the part (69023-35010) from Amayama. The illustration that Toyota have in the parts book isn't that clear!

Fortunately, the part that arrived looked correct.

Fitting it is a bit awkward, as the handle is fixed both to the tailgate and to the licence plate surround. Here's the new handle fitted to the surround. The two M6 studs are fixed through the tailgate.

Here's the rusty original:

While I'd got the licence plate surround off, I gave the area behind as well as the inside of the tailgate a coat of Bilt-Hamber UC wax. It sprays on nicely and doesn't stink the car out for days after!

All back together and working nicely.

started to break loose the bolts for the gas tank skid plate. still the one is stuck in the frame rail. Another day or two with pb blaster and hopefully it comes undone without breaking.

Yes. My whole interior is black.

zacattack20 - more pics of the black?

Installed a Eibach Pro-Truck lift kit ~2.5". Ran into some bumps (rusted top bolts and top hat that ended up being cut out) but all buttoned up and looking good! Build thread coming as soon as I have enough posts.

You did the hitch and running boards too?

No, I actually removed the running boards last weekend. The hitch I painted with POR15 a few months ago, still looks great. I did do the cowl with Forever Black.

Can anyone identify where this wire harness plugs in? It comes out from Under the factory amplifier, I have a 2000 limited.

Also where does the smaller plug go below, I know the bigger one is the antenna.. I’m removing the PO’s radio and both of these were unplugged..

In the first photo, my guess is either the main harness for the factory radio or the factory amp.

In the second photo, the smaller one is the jack for the diversity antenna that’s embedded in the rear passenger side quarter glass. You’ll need a Metra splitter (or equivalent) of you want to run it to an aftermarket head unit. The factory radio has hookups for both, aftermarket radios only accept the larger one for your front passenger fender antenna.

So the question is, has anyone used the Metra splitter for both on an aftermarket deck? And does that 2nd antenna really help at all or is it gimmicky?

Most people say it’s not noticeable but I have no experience personally. I bought a splitter years ago when I put a Kenwood head unit in my old ‘96 thinking I’d need one during the install, but it didn’t even have the diversity antenna in the quarter glass! In my 2000, I left it unhooked because I don’t listen to the radio and opted for a manual micro rocker switch to allow my antenna to only raise when I want (which is probably less than 5x a year lol). At least I don’t have to worry about it when wheeling or automatic car washes!
