What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Braking is a bit spongy and pulls to the left under hard braking, even after bleeding so I sprayed the rotors with brake cleaner in case there was oil or something but no change so I ordered new pads and rotors. Wear on both sides is even. I measured the rotor as there are 2 sizes 297 and 319mm and mine were 297 so That's what I ordered....I guess they were supposed to be 319mm. It appears there is plenty of room to fit the bigger rotor and the pads are for the bigger rotor:wtf:

I asked about the casting because it's common for people to swap tundra/sequoia brake calipers and rotors onto 3rd gens. You can tell what's on your rig by looking at the code cast into the calipers. 13we, 13wl are the tundra calipers. However I don't think that's your problem as the tundra rotor is the same diameter as the stock rotor.

If you order parts from camelback toyota online you put in your vin and they'll make sure the parts you ordered are correct for your vehicle. Plus they've got really good prices on OEM parts.

Cool, thanks I will take a look !

Lower frickin' ball joints and sway bar links. 180k miles and the joints were
just beginning to get a little loose. No bueno.

'02 FSM says 37 lb-ft on the 4 bolts vs. 59 shown in Tim's video for an '00.
I went with 37.

I can confirm that the ‘00 FSM says 59 but yea maybe different for the ‘02 I guess.

Just ordered a custom pop socket for my phone hopefully they don’t say it’s a copyrighted image or something...

Finally got around to the oil change now the valve cover gasket is done and looks good.

5.5 qts (actually more like 6 after the filter had sucked it up) of Pennzoil High Mileage 5W30 and OEM filter.

Also passenger side spark plugs, need to find time to do driver side...lol

That picture make me cringe seeing that magnetic tool tray stuck to the passenger door panel. I can feel all the scratches its putting into your paint.

If it's the Hong Kong Freight one like I have the magnet is very rubbery like it's made of some non-skid stuff....and I don't think he's too worried about the paint anyways.

I dealt with the rust on the rear frame cross member. I dremelled / ground off most of the rust flakes and scale and then used POR degreaser which washes off completely with water. Then sprayed it down with methanol and allowed to thoroughly dry. Then applied 1-2 coats of Eastwood Rust Encapsulator. It gets good reviews and I'm happy with it so far. The next day I top coated with Rustoleum black rim paint which I have had great success with in the other places I have used it. That will be a more resistant paint to chips and dings. I'll spray Eastwood frame paint inside the frame tomorrow.

Next I'm moving onto the cross member above the rear axle and I'll continue working my way through all rusty frame areas. Only have so much good weather left though.

I appreciate the concern and wish that scratching the paint was something I had to worry about. It is sad because this truck looks like someone took great care of it up till a few years ago and then just let it get bad.

I'm working on doing the whole frame, how much rust did you get rid off before starting to paint?

Yeah, it a harbor freight special. I just make sure that once it's on I don't slide it around.
